Position Summary - Court Reporters are responsible for maintaining evidence, exhibits and providing administrative duties on behalf of the Court.

Hancock Superior Court 1 handles Family law; Criminal Felony 5 and above, including Murder; Civil; Collections; Estates; Protection Orders; and Miscellaneous Matters.

Position Responsibilities:
• Records and reports all court proceedings using the court's automated system, including maintaining exhibits, depositions, recordings, and notes of all proceedings.
• Work in the automated case management system, as well as the queues (court tasks). Answers court telephones and questions from other courts, attorneys, and the general public, while remembering to adhere to confidentiality procedures.
• Work as a team with other staff members in duties essential to the operations of the court.
• Other duties and responsibilities may include typing orders, entries, documents; preparing and maintaining files; preparing correspondence and distributing as required by the court; assisting with the scheduling of cases on the court calendar; assisting with the monitoring of supplies needed for the operation of the court, and other tasks assigned by the Court.
• Timely preparation of transcripts of the record of proceedings when requested.
• Jury Preparation, various tasks relating to acquiring jury pools, calendaring etc.

Qualifications - High school diploma or equivalent; clerical or administrative experience in the legal field preferred. Knowledge and understanding of legal terminology and civil and/or criminal procedures are a plus. Proven computer skills are required as is the ability to type at least 45 wpm minimum while maintaining the accuracy of complex and lengthy material. Knowledge and use of proper grammar and spelling are a must.

Must be able to meet strict deadlines.

Work Hours - 8 am - 4 pm (35 hours/wk.); occasionally, additional hours may be required

. Salary - $39,000-$41,200 Annually. Pay is commensurate with experience and education. Benefits are offered per the Hancock County Benefits Package.
