CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under general direction of a departmental supervisor, assists in the administration and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and programs. Incumbent performs research on departmental issues, disseminates information, develops and prepares documents and reports, and performs related professional and administrative duties. This classification is intended to provide the incumbent with broad exposure to organizational operations; thus, specific duties will vary between departments. The employee receives assignments from the supervisor, who defines objectives, priorities, and deadlines, and assists the employee with unusual situations that do not have clear precedents.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Performs research on departmental concerns; gathers and analyzes data; prepares and updates reports and correspondence; assists in the preparation and submission of grant applications, requests for proposals, and related materials.

Assists in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures; interprets departmental rules and regulations.

Performs liaison with other departments and agencies to gather and disseminate information.

Develops and maintains departmental databases, records, and documentation; completes, types, copies, and files standardized documents; informs supervisor of policy and procedural activities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Current enrollment in a post-secondary program OR graduation with a Bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration or closely related field; supplemented by one (1) year of experience in providing research and analysis assistance; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Special Requirements: Must attach an official sealed copy of college transcripts with application. Must possess a valid California Class C Driver's License.

POSITION SUMMARY

This Community Resource Assistant position will manage the Green Ambassador Program, which is a newly launched program funded by The California Department of Transportation's Clean California Local Grant Program. The goals of the Clean California Local Grant Program are to: (1) reduce the amount of waste and debris in public spaces; (2) enhance, rehabilitate, restore, or install measures to beautify and improve public spaces and mitigate the urban heat island effect; (3) enhance public health, cultural connection, and community place making by improving public spaces for walking and recreation; and (4) advance equity for underserved communities. The Green Ambassador Program will be developed at three public housing sites in Watts (Imperial Courts Jordan Downs and Nickerson Gardens) and five scattered sites; involving the recruitment and utilization of residents in the development and implementation of marketing campaigns, events and activities are focused on education and culture-shifting to develop awareness and activism around environmental and litter abatement issues and ownership of the related beautification efforts.

This position is funded by the Clean California Local grant , which is a two-year award to be completed by June 30, 2024.

JOB DESCRIPTION

DEFINITION: Under general direction, the Community Resource Assistant provides broad outreach and administrative support on a variety of programs involving Public Housing residents, Resident Leaders, community stakeholders, and other government agencies. The Community Resource Assistant should be aware of current local and federal news and events, and general community concerns and may be asked to provide managers with regular updates on related news items. Performs other related duties as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

The Community Resource Assistant provides a wide range of outreach and administrative support to HACLA public housing residents, Resident Leaders, and liaises with external partners including advocates, non-profits other government agencies and redevelopment partners on a wide-ranging area of functional responsibilities. The Community Resource Assistant builds and maintains positive relationships with stakeholders through professional communication and customer service. The incumbent may occasionally have to operate under periods of high pressure and critical time constraints, and in an environment where priorities are constantly evolving and issues often emerge and change rapidly. The Community Resource Assistant works/liaises with a wide swathe of HACLA departments in the course of providing, obtaining and transmitting support and information between HACLA and residents, Resident Leaders, Partners, developers, and Executive Management.
