Hemmings Motor News is expanding our Auctions Team! We are looking to add a new Auctions/Valuations Research Specialist to aid in growing our business and helping make it the premier online destination for collector-car valuations and auctions. We are seeking a detail-oriented professional who is knowledgeable in specialty vehicles and the collector-car market and who can focus on the analytics... This role is critical to accurately valuing Auctions and Valuations submissions and providing real-world, market-accurate valuations. Though focused on research, this position is inherently cross-functional and requires working closely with the entire Auctions and Hemmings Marketplace teams.
The successful person in this role can effectively identify pricing trends, compile supporting documentation, and create reporting to inform where and how to improve. This position is focused on helping our customers have a great experience with Hemmings Auctions and Valuations. This full-time position is based in our Bennington, Vermont office or as a full-time remote position.
Pricing Research
• Research vehicle submissions by gathering real-world pricing data and identifying market trends
• Evaluate vehicle history, taking into consideration vehicle type, specifications, originality, and modifications along with condition and operational status.
• Identify a range of sale prices of similar vehicles.
Reserve Recommendation
• Deliver a reasonable reserve recommendation that sellers will accept while maximizing our sell-through rate
Market Trends
• Correctly identify collector-car market trends by using all the analytical tools at their disposal
• Closely observe Hemmings Marketplace performance
• Follow published analysis in the field and its relationship to general economic trends.
• Report overall market analysis as needed or requested by the rest of the Auctions team regarding changes in market trends.
Analytics Focus
• Leverage the research process to use our own historical data to refine and improve our processes and estimations.
Automotive Knowledge –
• Automotive expertise to understand the context and importance of different components and deliver accurate research and estimates.
• Familiarity with a breadth of popular collector-car makes and models
• Basic understanding of parts and systems for modern and vintage automobiles, including accurate identification of powertrain systems, options packages, and body styles; and other similar automotive knowledge.
Data Analysis
• Knowledge of and ability to aggregate, organize and interpret data from multiple, sometimes disparate sources and parse that data for the specific output intended, whether for an auction reserve recommendation or a valuation report.
• Ability to properly configure the data for sharing with internal users, such as market trend reports or specific data requested by team members as needed.
Digital Expertise
• Well versed in the use of digital technology platforms and broad internet usage.
• Capacity to develop or aid in the development of tools and process in collaboration with colleagues throughout the Auctions team and Hemmings in general
• Experience leveraging digital tools to manage customer workflows (CRM, CMS, etc.) and expertise in standard digital business tools (Word, Excel, Email, etc.)

The Auctions Listing Specialist will provide this service while shepherding each auction listing from submission through post-sale wrap-up. The Auction Listings Specialist is expected to work closely with the team to help build, update, and manage auction listings as needed to ensure quick response for our sellers and maximize the available inventory for our bidders.
Overall, the Auctions Listing Specialist will work closely with all team members to remain focused on the growth of Hemmings Auctions.
Strong computer skills: CRM (Salesforce), CMS, Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)
Knowledge of the internet as a marketplace of buying and selling, including thoroughly understanding our live, online auction environment
Ability to provide a consistently high level of customer service via robust written and verbal communication
Strong negotiation skills with the ability to overcome objections
Ideal candidates will have strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of the collector-car market is helpful, but not required. Previous customer support experience is a plus.
