The Department of Physics and Astronomy in the College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with research interests in the area of Medical Physics for newly launched MS in Medical Physics program. We seek outstanding applicants with a demonstrated track record of excellence in Medical Physics research and teaching. Successful candidates are expected to develop vigorous, extramurally funded research programs in their areas of expertise, actively participate in the Department's teaching and curriculum development at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Evidence of interest and success in mentoring underrepresented students is highly desired. Candidates who have successfully completed a CAMPEP accredited graduate program are preferred.

Howard University, a culturally diverse, comprehensive, research intensive and historically Black private university, provides an educational experience of exceptional quality at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels to students of high academic standing and potential, with particular emphasis upon educational opportunities for Black students. Howard University is currently classified as an R2 research university with aspirations and actions underway to achieve R1 status within the next few years. The Department of Physics and Astronomy currently consists of 18 faculty members, conducting pure and applied research with specializations in Medical Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Batteries & Renewable Energy, Laser Spectroscopy & Optics, Cosmology & String Theory, Nuclear and Elementary Particle Physics and Biophysics. It offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Physics with foci in Medical Physics, Experimental, Theoretical and Computational Physics research related to the above cited areas and is a leading producer of African Americans earning degrees in Physics. Required Qualifications:
• Earned doctorate in Medical Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Imaging Sciences, Health Physics, Radiation Sciences, Physics, or related disciplines from an accredited institution;
• Record of scholarship, teaching, and professional service commensurate with the rank of assistant professor in Medical Physics;
• Effective communication and organizational skills; and
• Evidence of successful grant writing experience is highly favored but not required.

Required Qualifications

· Earned M.M., D.M.A., or Ph.D. in an area (or a combination of areas) of music scholarship and/or performance, OR the equivalent in the highest levels of professional experience;

· Record of professional accomplishments and scholarship that meet the qualifications for the appointment to the rank of Associate or Full Professor in the college;

· Strong and sustained record of performance, creative, and/or scholarly research accomplishments (applicant may be asked to provide work samples in the form of videos, recordings, or other forms of publication)

· Demonstrated experience in administrative, personnel, and budgetary activities;

· Commitment to further developing the use of technology within the department;

· Evidence of effective community outreach and development, leadership, ability to forge partnerships, and build productive relationships with both campus and external constituencies including alumni;

· Evidence of effective teaching within the candidates’ area(s) of expertise

· Commitment to helping students obtain a broad-based education;

· Experience in curriculum development, including collaboration and innovative pedagogy;

· Demonstrated ability to manage a complex organization and work effectively with colleagues across departments;
