HubPages is seeking a Network Editor with excellent writing/editing skills and online know-how to join our diverse team of editors, moderators, engineers, and product and community advocates. The Network Editor will be responsible for curating, fact-checking, copy-editing, and enhancing (including media) user-generated web content. The ideal candidate is team-oriented, detail-oriented, creative, a self-starter, and possesses great time-management skills.
Responsibilities:
• Curate and fact-check content for niche Network Sites
• Proofread UGC for spelling, grammar, and punctuation
• Communicate edit requests to authors
• Moderate content for quality, duplication, spam, or self-promotion
• Conduct keyword research and optimize content using best SEO practices
• Write for a target audience and/or a specific industry (e.g. beauty, health, entertainment, and politics)
• Program Network Site(s) with featured authors, featured stories, and media
• Manage social media platform for assigned Network Site(s) (Facebook and Pinterest)
• Follow editorial policies, procedures, and internal/external style guides
• Receive and implement feedback from senior editors
• Attend introductory and ongoing trainings
• Conduct self-directed study as necessary
• Attend weekly meetings and collaborate with team members
• Accurately record work hours using payroll management software
• Report to manager weekly
Requirements:
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language
• At least one year of copy-editing experience preferred
• The ability to write in a variety of voices or for a specific industry
• Great time-management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask
• Collaborative and team-oriented
• Meets deadlines and shows initiative
• Computer processing skills and familiarity with G Suite
• Comfortable fact-checking and sourcing/verifying information
• Familiarity with style guides (APA, CMS)
• Knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) or an interest in learning
• Social media proficiency and familiarity (Pinterest, Facebook)
• Basic understanding of Canva for adapting media (text overlay, infographic creation) or willingness to learn
• Must be able to perform repetitive tasks at a computer for 40 hours a week
Compensation and other perks:
• Compensation is $25 hourly
• 40 hours a week flexible schedule
