About the Minority Serving-Cyberinfrastructure Consortium (MS-CC):

MS-CC envisions a transformational partnership to promote advanced cyberinfrastructure (CI) capabilities at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), and other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs). This will be accomplished through community-building and workforce development opportunities, consulting services provided by MS-CC’s core team of CI experts, and by establishing capacity-building connections among institutions. The MS-CC is financially supported via multiple grants from the National Science Foundation and with operational support provided by Internet2.

The MS-CC is searching for an individual that is deeply committed to effectively recommending, implementing, and maintaining cyberinfrastructure solutions that advance academic research at HBCUs, TCUs, and other MSIs. This position serves as a CI Engineer within the Minority Serving – Cyberinfrastructure Consortium (MS-CC) and will be responsible for providing input to MS-CC campuses on the evaluation, design, development, and ongoing support of cyberinfrastructure services for computing, storage, software, and networking infrastructure. The CI Engineer will work closely in a consultation fashion with researchers, educators, and IT staff across a broad range of disciplines to recommend existing solutions and to be an advocate for unmet CI needs across MS-CC’s participating institutions. In support of these activities, the CI Engineer will collaborate with the MS-CC team and their network of connections across the CI ecosystem to support the advancement of CI capabilities at member campuses, in many cases liaising connections with other experts and campus-supporting services for members to engage with.

Responsibilities
• Manages multiple complex projects concerning cyberinfrastructure on behalf of the MS-CC
• The employee is expected to be self-directed and work independently within the goals and priorities set by MS-CC Leadership.
• Forge close working relationships and share knowledge with IT groups across participating member institutions. Provide expertise by answering and addressing questions from researchers, educators, and IT staff, referring more advanced questions to experts internal and external to MS-CC and Internet2, and across the national CI ecosystem.
• Conduct operations, investigations, and tests of cyberinfrastructure systems and configurations to enhance performance or to investigate and resolve matters of significance. Investigate new technologies, services, and related opportunities of importance to MS-CC members.
• Consult with and aid researchers and IT staff in the development and migration of scientific workflows to large-scale data and computing environments. Work with domain experts as well as technology experts to understand and capture key patterns and practices for platforms, tools, and techniques; document these for the broader MS-CC and research communities, and work within the community to share these resources (e.g., through writing, speaking, presentations, etc.).
• Contribute to MS-CC communications and events, including writing, speaking, and teaching at community gatherings. Assist in the development of workshops and one-on-one technical assistance and training to faculty, staff and students in the use of large-scale data and computing systems, and associated scientific software.
• Help MS-CC better understand how we can better support campus research and education programs by collaborating with Internet2 teams (e.g. Research Engagement, Network Services, NET+, and Trust and Identity).
• Help MS-CC prioritize and leverage engagements with other CI communities (e.g. CaRCC) and CI service providers (e.g. OSG/PATh, ACCESS, industry partners) to help them better bridge their programs to the minority-serving higher education community.
• Collaborate with IT staff at HBCUs, TCUs, or HSIs to understand and troubleshoot existing and new research-supporting services.
• Coordinate with MS-CC team members to inform and execute services for facilitating cyberinfrastructure advancements at member institutions.
• Collaborate with sponsored research personnel to identify additional funding opportunities for the MS-CC and its membership, and ensure compliance.
• Other tasks may be assigned as the MS-CC continues to scale and/or as determined by the MS-CC Program Director in Consultation with the MS-CC CLC.

The qualified candidate will have the following:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent, relevant experience in a data-driven field of study.
• 5-7 years of experience building and maintaining compute, storage, and/or networking infrastructure for data-driven research and/or education programs at an institution of higher education.
• Deep commitment to supporting and advancing data-driven research and education through the effective use of IT.
• Demonstrated experience supporting IT staff, researchers and/or educators across a range of disciplines and CI requirements, including practices of listening, analysis, and synthesizing knowledge for sharing with a range of audiences.
• Working knowledge of a variety of campus-supported cyberinfrastructure services.
• A strong grounding and demonstrated experience in information technology principles, tools, and techniques, including those for data management, programming, basic security, and associated IT domains.
• Demonstrated experience working in collaborative teams and partnerships; good organizational and team facilitation skills.
• Excellent communications skills, including strong writing as well as oral and presentation skills; an ability to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner; and a demonstrated capacity to work effectively in both face-to-face as well as remote (telepresence) contexts.

Other Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities:
• Master’s degree (or Master’s degree candidate) preferred.
• Education or work experience at/with one or more Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) or Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), or relevant to other minority-serving institutions, as defined by the Department of Education.
• Experience designing, implementing, or maintaining systems for data storage, sharing, and/or preservation.
• Expertise with network and data movement tools and how they are used on campus, regional, national, international, and/or cloud networks.
• Familiarity with trust and identity services, and security and privacy issues as they relate to academic research activities and workflows.
• Familiarity with Internet2 and other CI communities and providers across the United States (e.g. NSF PATh/OSG, ACCESS, CaRCC, TrustedCI, to name a few).
• Experience with data-driven research and education challenges across a range of domains, including Life Sciences; Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences; Arts and Humanities; Engineering and Computer Sciences; Physical and Natural Sciences.

This is a full-time position which will include competitive compensation and benefits package. This is a fully remote position, travel to institutions participating in the MS-CC and regional/national meetings will be expected several times per year.

This will be accomplished through a variety of programmed activities focused on workforce development, collaboration, research computing, and capacity-building within and among institutions. The MS-CC is currently funded for a minimum of 5 years by National Science Foundation grant awards.

The MS-CC is searching for an enthusiastic, results-driven individual who can manage multiple program activities that will make a significant and positive difference in cyberinfrastructure at HBCUs, TCUs, and other MSIs.

The MS-CC Project Manager will work under the general direction of the Sr. Projects Manager at Internet2. (S)he will be integral in ensuring effective project management for the Proof of Concept Grant (PoCG) program, which will advance campus-specific cyberinfrastructure (CI) activities for at least five (5) institutions. In addition to providing project management for the activities associated with each PoCG institution, this role will be responsible for tracking the activities, milestones, and deliverables of Tiger Teams who will collaborate work directly with the PoCGs to identify and execute strategic CI investments, based on each PoCG institution’s research and education priorities.

Specific responsibilities include:
• The employee is expected to be self-directed and work independently within the goals and priorities set by the Sr. Projects Manager
• Collaborate with PoCG contacts, Tiger Team members, and Internet2 staff to gather requirements, develop work plans, document and review action items, identify and escalate potential risks and barriers to ensure projects progress on time and to completion
• Coordinate the logistics and workstreams of the Tiger Teams’ activities at the PoCG institutions
• Including, but not limited to: developing project plans, coordinating necessary deployment activities, tracking tasks, capturing metrics, and developing reports
• Coordinate with staff at PoCG institutions to capture program milestones and outcomes
• Create and maintain comprehensive process documentation for the PoCG Program
