Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Administrative
• Provide secretarial and administrative support to Administrative Offices.
• Use established guidelines to develop and coordinate complex and key administrative projects.
• Monitor, evaluate, and implement business practices and procedures to support day-to-day operational needs.
• Facilitate programmatic activities such as committee meetings, seminars, retreats, etc.

• SAP processing, ordering office supplies as directed; processing invoices for payments, and checking travel requests for reimbursements.

Johns Hopkins University is accepting applications for six tenured faculty positions at the associate or full professor level to hold Bloomberg Distinguished Professorships (BDPs) [jhu.edu/bdp] in the field of neuroscience. These positions are part of the BDP Initiative’s Brain Resilience Across the Life Span research cluster [Brain Resilience Across the Lifespan | VPR at JHU] and will significantly strengthen the Johns Hopkins neuroscience community. These faculty will hold endowed BDP positions with appointments in two or more departments and will lead interdisciplinary research that bridges fields like neuroscience, biomedical engineering, biology, psychology, neurology, and psychiatry.

The Brain Resilience Across the Lifespan BDP cluster is dedicated to furthering our basic understanding of brain plasticity mechanisms to establish, enhance and preserve brain function over the lifespan in health and disease. Cutting-edge approaches such as cellular and circuit imaging, single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, high-density neurophysiology, genomics, and computational genetics, provide unprecedented opportunities to meet this goal. An additional six junior faculty will be hired within the Brain Resilience cluster to complement BDP research.

Johns Hopkins University is a world-renowned institution in neuroscience-related research and education, and is a leader in the treatment of neurological, neuropsychiatric, and neurodegenerative disorders. The six Bloomberg distinguished professors hired in the research cluster will be based in either the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, or the Whiting School of Engineering, withindepartments that include, but are not limited to, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, psychiatry, psychological and brain sciences, neurology, and biology. The specific departmental affiliations will be determined based on the research interests of the candidates.

The Bloomberg Distinguished Professorships Cluster Initiative [LINK: research.jhu.edu/clusters] at Johns Hopkins University is part of an ambitious investment in interdisciplinary research to bridge academic disciplines and open novel fields of inquiry to tackle society’s most complex problems. Recruiting 100 researchers and scholars, the BDP program was established in 2013 and expanded in 2021 with gifts from Michael R. Bloomberg, JHU alumnus and 108th mayor of New York City. itinerary to include bios and other support materials as
necessary.
• Process expenditures (including travel) for payment, reconcile
accounts, and monitor expenses within budgetary framework.
• Prepare, approve, and/or serve as backup for financial
transactions (purchase orders, online payments, purchase cards,
transfers, and others). Reconcile assigned accounts on a monthly
basis and identify/resolve financial discrepancies.
• Support the coordination of special events sponsored by JHFRE.
This may include planning the event, location, menu, equipment,
invitations, attendance and reservations, preparation of materials,
and briefing and preparing the VP for the event.
• Resolve administrative issues and problems that arise
throughout the course of the day.
• Team with other administrative staff within the department,
providing guidance, planning, problem solving, back up support, and
other related collaborative issues.
• Other duties as assigned for other VP JHFRE leadership.

• Ensure that the VP is fully prepared for meetings and
appearances, including compiling and preparing materials,
confirming meeting details and expectations. Prepare and/or review
briefings. Conduct internet-based and other research to prepare for
meetings (e.g., providing biographies or information about
individuals or organizations).
• Plan, write, edit and manage distribution of letters, memoranda
and other communications from the VP, in partnership with the
VP.
• Assist in administering periodic staff meetings by helping to
organize an agenda, sending out advance notifications, as well as
reminders, copying and distributing materials.
• Prepare materials and detailed presentations in a readily
usable and easily understood format to support key projects and
other work undertaken by the VP. This requires initiative in
learning and understanding the priorities for the VP as well as all
of JHFRE.

• Overseeing planning and implementation for signature programs
(including, but not limited to, Lavender Celebration, Women's
History Month, LGBTQ History Month, Women & Femmes Gala, and

Student Support/Advising (30%)
• Serve as a hub and connector for student organizations related
to communities with marginalized sexual, romantic, and gender
identities.
• Advise students in small group and individual
settings.
• Refer students to other University departments (e.g.,
Multicultural Affairs, Religious, and Spiritual Life, Counseling
Center, Center for Student Success, Life Design, Academic Advising,
Case Management, etc.) or outside organizations when
necessary.
• Partner with student organizations to implement
programming.
• Oversee the department advisory boards and initiative
groups.
• Communicate student needs with the Associate Director and use
student feedback to inform departmental work.

Project Management/Operations (15%)
• In collaboration with the Associate Director, this position
will assist in the development of procedures and documentation of
GSR workflow and programs.
• Prepare briefs and professional communications about GSR work
for university administration.
• Serve as a leader and administrator within GSR and
CDI.
• Responsible for onboarding student
staff/paraprofessionals.

Communications (15%)
• Develop social media strategy to increase awareness and impact
of our events, programs, initiatives, partners, and community using
best practices.
• Implement software such as Loomly and Canva to enact social
media strategy.
• Supervising student staff to implement social media

• Working with Associate Director to update department website as
needed to reflect GSRs current work best.
• Oversee student interns in the moderation of a Discord
