What you will do

As a Field Project Manager, for our Fire division, you will lead complex fire alarm, security, and communications installation projects in commercial, educational, healthcare, industrial, and military facilities. Responsible for setup of local project offices, project scope definition, risk identification, project methodology, resource allocation, and facilitation. Manages schedule, cost, safety, quality, and customer expectations/satisfaction. Presents to management and/or customers on project updates, project cycle, and expected results. Ensures projects are closed on time and in scope.

How you will do it
• Oversees and communicates project progression from inception to completion including design, permits, material delivery, labor schedules, and field installation.
• Develops a comprehensive project plan to meet schedules and budgets. Conducts Work in Progress meetings.
• Understands and follows all published codes, standards, and unique project specifications.
• Ensures AHJ requirements and departmental/SOX procedures are followed.
• Coordinates change orders and works toward overall margin improvement on every job.

What we look for

Required
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certificate or diploma in a related field (Fire & Life Safety, Electrical/Electronic; Security). Certification in Fire Alarm Systems preferred.
• 5 years’ installation experience in Fire, Electrical, or Security systems.
• Expectation that Project Management Professional certification will be obtained within two years of employment in the position.

What you will do 

Under general direction, manages the Branch delivery teams that include the Controls and Mechanical Installation teams.  Assists management in revenue forecasting, billings, collections and resource planning.  Assigns projects and ensures appropriate engineering, commissioning and mechanical resources are assigned to those projects.  Ensures work performed is in compliance with state, local, federal, and legal requirements and operates with the highest of ethics.  Ensures staff adheres to all safety standards. Develops and builds contractor, customer, consultant, and subcontractor relationships in the community.  

 How you will do it

Manages the overall execution and performance of assigned Controls and Mechanical Installation delivery teams. Ensures Branch goals and objectives are met.  Goals and objectives are aligned with Senior Installation Manager’s and from a priority include SINC, cash flow, reducing equipment/project slippage, backlog growth, SG&A, productivity improvements, succession planning etc. 

Establishes goals and development plans for all direct reports.  Evaluates employee performance and performs salary management.  Drives asset management including cost control, billings, collections, and payables.

Recruits Project Team Leaders, System Team Leaders, System Technicians, and Leads Systems Specialists the appropriate skills and competencies to meet the needs of the Branch.

Ensures that the estimating and engineering standards are used effectively.

Follows up on customer satisfaction issues and drives resolution. Provides leadership by demonstrating focus on achieving customer satisfaction.

Assists the Senior Installation Manager in preparation of annual strategic and financial operating plan.

Develops and builds contractor, customer, consultant, and subcontractor relationships in the community.

Assists Project Team Leaders, System Team Leaders, Sales, Project Engineers, and Lead Systems Specialists in the review and interpretation of contract terms and conditions.

Responsible for scheduling of installation projects and backlog, including scheduling of want dates and ship dates.

Coaches teams on the management of project risks, conflict resolution and establishment project recovery plans.

Promotes the securing of change orders.

Ensures compliance with the Safety Program for employees and subcontractors.

Ensures compliance with state, local and Federal legal requirements and ensures that installation business is conducted with the highest ethical standards.

What we look for

Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or Architecture.
• Minimum of seven or more years of progressively more responsible operations management experience in the Building Construction Industry including five or more years of direct project management experience. 
• High-level competence in written and verbal communication.
• Ability to travel based upon geographical locations of assigned teams.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Engineer I will work in the Sustaining & VAVE (Value Analysis / Value Engineering) team that is part of the Unitary Products Group Ducted Systems for JCI. This position will be in the Wichita, KS plant and will report to the Engineering Manager for Sustaining & VAVE.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

This position will create value for JCI stakeholders by implementing various cost, product, and process

improvements to residential and light commercial HVAC systems through the application of proven engineering principles. Potential cost improvements will be identified by working closely with the Procurement team and performing regular VAVE benchmarking events. Potential product and process improvements will be identified by working closely with the Field Service, Manufacturing, and Quality teams.

This position will evaluate prospective improvements prior to their implementation using life cycle testing and field testing to ensure both an increase in product reliability and a decrease in warranty claims. This position will also be expected to lead smaller scale projects and support larger scale projects under the guidance of both the Senior Engineer and Engineering

Manager.

HOW YOU WILL DO IT:

• Follow established safety procedures and wear the required personal protection equipment.

• Complete projects in a timely and efficient manner to ensure that improvement objectives are met.

• Generate cost improvement proposals through regular VAVE benchmarking events.

• Work closely with the Procurement team to qualify alternate suppliers and/or components.

• Generate product and process improvement proposals by participating in cross-functional value stream

meetings with the Field Service, Manufacturing, and Quality teams.

• Prioritize all proposals based on anticipated savings, improvement potential, and implementation time.

• Implement viable proposals according to the assigned priority using the engineering change process.

• Provide technical direction and guidance to designers, model makers, technicians, and/or programmers to

ensure timely implementation of improvement proposals.

• Track and report progress on key metrics such as cost, reliability, and warranty improvements to internal

customers, external customers, and upper management.

• Participate in design reviews for all new product launches to ensure the implementation of previous

“Lessons learned” and the application of any new product and/or process improvements.

• Lead smaller scale projects and support larger scale projects under the guidance of both the Senior Engineer

and Engineering Manager.

How you will do it:
• For assigned accounts, seeks for Johnson Controls to become the preferred supplier of HVAC equipment (“default spec” with consulting engineers and design build contractors, “trusted advisor” with account owners). Ensures customer retention of assigned accounts. Partners with sales representatives and/or agents to improve profit generation from accounts through influence on specifications (owners, consulting engineers) and market pricing (design build contractors). Uses business tools to plan and document progress as well as increase business opportunity in accounts. Educates and supports consultant accounts on a regular basis to obtain Basis of Design specifications.
• Works under consultative direction. Assignments are self-initiated. Work checked through consultation & agreement with others. Technical/business leader. Exhibits divisional influence. Mentor for application engineers globally.
• Assists in selling, with minimal direction, the Johnson Controls offerings persuasively, persistently, and confidently to all members of the Data Center community to include contractors, consultants and designers while reaching optimal profit levels. Leads multiple, ongoing, opportunities in conjunction with customer and industry events.
• Builds partnering relationships with the owner community responsible for the decision-making process to drive the sale of Johnson Controls offerings. Actively listens, probes, and identifies concerns. Understands the customer's business cycle customer base. Demonstrates technical and business expertise and maintains a high level of credibility. Garners loyalty, trust, and commitment from the customer.
• Recognized authority in many technical products, systems, and operational disciplines. Required
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Other forms of training and/or education will be considered
• Must have a minimum of 14 years of experience with the design, application and operation of HVAC systems or process cooling in Mission Critical Applications.
