The digital editor will be responsible for creating an engaging web presence by generating local... consumer-targeted web content from concept to publication and managing editorial across our digital and social platforms. The successful candidate will be a good interviewer and storyteller. We're looking for a multi-tasker who can edit and create daily content on deadline.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Create original content for inkansascity.com, social media platforms, and e-newsletters
• Upload and maintain digital content on website and social channels including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn
• Create strategies to grow digital footprint and audience engagement
• Monitor and report on web presence and traffic
• Collaborate with editor-in-chief, art director, digital director, as well as freelance contributors
• Maintain standards of digital brand together with the print magazine’s aesthetic
• Attend and engage at local events and openings

Requirements:
• Work experience as a digital editor preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
• Strong understanding of social media best practices is essential
• Attention to detail and meeting deadlines
• Proficiency with creating graphic content, preferably using the Adobe Creative Suite. Video editing experience is a plus
• Preferred candidates must be familiar with the Kansas City market – retail shops, restaurants, events
• Must work well in a team environment

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year

· Review and edit daily content

· Generate ideas for feature stories based on industry events, trends and coverage relevance

· Work with editorial staff to maintain quality and timely flow of content for the website and print magazine

· Assist with editorial staff management, to include overall staff development and advancement (in collaboration with Editor)

· Set and maintain schedules and deadlines for editorial assignments and custom projects

· Work in collaboration with designer to organize the weekly publication

· Travel to trade shows/conferences and other industry events for the purpose of generating copy, networking and establishing credibility with industry leaders

· Assist in special projects or analysis requests from the editorial staff

· Manage invoices for contributing editors/freelancers

The Ideal Candidate:

· Excellent researching, interviewing, writing and editing skills

· Demonstrated experience mentoring editorial staff

· Self-starter, takes initiative

· Team player with strong work ethic and curiosity to learn new tasks

· Seeks new opportunities to contribute and embraces change with a positive attitude

· Creativity (ability to generate new ideas and engage an audience)

· Proficient in Adobe and Microsoft Suites (InDesign and Word)

· Experience with multimedia tools (video, webinars)

· Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks

· Ability to communicate effectively with all levels in the organization

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field

· 7+ years journalism experience

· Knowledge of B2B food industry a plus

· Willingness and ability to travel (5-8 times per year)
