KATU/KUNP is looking for a take-charge General Assignment Reporter to help us continue to grow and empower our audiences! We are seeking a motivated, energetic, creative, and aggressive reporter who can think and perform outside the box. The ideal candidate should be able to develop story ideas and gather information for newscasts, have sound writing skills, a great work ethic, and a can-do... attitude. The best person for this job will have excellent live shot skills and thrives on breaking stories. The reporter may work mornings and have duties that include the Live Desk in morning newscasts.
No day will look the same as a Reporter, however, the main responsibilities of the role will include:
• Create, shoot, write and edit meaningful stories for station's newscast that can be used across multiple platforms
• Provide news on-air as directed from the news management team
• Engaging with local community members
• Reviewing material for fairness, accuracy, and balance
• Work closely with all members of the news team, which would include Producers, Editors, Anchors, News Directors etc..
• Deliver breaking and developing news from the Live Desk, describing emerging stories without written scripting, ad lib.

• Proven knowledge and experience working with current media creation tools and contemporary newsroom systems

As a part of our commitment to community services and educational enrichment, KATU/KUNP is offering a limited number of highly sought unpaid internships, aimed at providing a springboard for college students interested in developing careers in broadcast and/or cable television. These internships are offered to selected participants currently enrolled in institutions of higher learning. Student interns will experience all phases of a major market television station’s day-to-day operations as a supplement to their academic curriculum.
Internship areas include: • Lifestyle Shows (AM Northwest/Afternoon Live) • Creative Services • General News • Digital Media • Sales and Marketing
Eligibility/Qualifications... KATU/KUNP Internships are made available to juniors and seniors registered in a four-year undergraduate program at an accredited college or university. Graduate students and students entering their second year in a two-year junior or community college program may also be considered. Applicants should possess declared majors in communications, journalism, broadcast production techniques or some similar related area. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
General Qualifications: • A current college student who boasts a strong academic record • Able to receive college credit for this internship • A responsible professional who has prior internship and/or experience • A candidate with a terrific attitude who can work well with a team as well as independently • A creative self-starter who can communicate effectively and work well under constant deadlines • Willing to work mornings, nights and/or weekends to support our newscasts varying hours: we will do our best to work with your schedule • If interested in working with AM Northwest in addition to general requirements, must be able to work early mornings

Be an effective educator/trainer internally & externally on digital tactics, benefits, and trends
Work with Sales Management to add digital solutions in station initiatives, sponsorships, etc.
Share & ensure sales training materials are applicable for market needs and ongoing cross-platform sales development in coordination with regional digital sales leadership
Review & support sales plans, ensuring KPI/ROI achievement
Showcase extreme ownership in the success & effectiveness of the digital sales department from pre- to post-campaign, managing deliverables, milestones, and timing on all campaigns
Prepares budgets and revenue reporting for Director of Sales and Local Sales Manager to hold team accountable to digital goals by vertical by Marketing Consultant
Prepare & lead sales meetings in partnership with the Director of Sales & Local Sales Managers
Manage & maximize digital inventory with effective pricing & market opportunities internally to the field
Assists with the recruitment of talented sales professionals
Perform other duties as assigned
What skills do you need to be successful in our role?
Ability to lead, train and inspire sales professionals
Working knowledge of new media, digital interactive initiatives, & social media
Hands-on experience developing new business as a skilled negotiator and motivator, a proven track record of digital success
Passion for leading and contributing to a sales team with a positive mindset
Effective relationship building, customer service, communication, and negotiation skills
Strong understanding of the changing landscape of integrated marketing
3+ years of digital ad sales experience
Sales management experience is a plus
