It is our goal to make significant contributions to mastering the global challenges of mankind in the fields of energy, mobility, and information. For this, more than 9.000 employees of KIT cooperate in a broad range of disciplines in research, academic education, and innovation. The Institut für Technische Chemie und Polymerchemie (ITCP) is looking as soon as possible and limited for aResearch Associate (f/m/d)Job descriptionThe group of Prof. Dr. Deutschmann is currently seeking to recruit a Research Associate (f/m/d) for work on a project in the field of development and validation of models for dynamic description of catalytic surface reactions. The opportunity for a doctorate is given. The group works on the development of climate and environmentally friendly chemical technologies. Research activities include carbon-free... chemical energy carriers, emission control, fuel and electrolysis cells, reaction engineering, heterogeneous catalysis, material synthesis, and multiphase flows. The methods used range from laser spectroscopy and kinetic measurements over digitalization and software development to numerical simulation and optimization of technical reactors. A very strong focus of the group is the development of models and computer codes for description and numerical simulation in reaction engineering and catalysis. The focus of the actual project is the elementary-step mechanism of CO and CH4 oxidation over noble metal-based catalysts (Pt/Pd). Of particular interest is the dynamics of structural changes as a function of reaction conditions and reacting atmosphere on the activity of the active site(s). For the goal to be achieved, microkinetic models (based on mean-field approximation) will be developed accounting for varying size of nanoparticles and oxidation states employing data from Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations. These microkinetic models will be used for numerical simulations of different reactor scales (lab scale reactors to full scale catalytic converters). By interpolation of the simulation results with experimental data, models for the dynamic changes of the catalytic surface shall be derived.Personal qualificationYou must have an excellent university degree (Master) or a PhD in the field of Physics, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or related technical subjects.A profound knowledge and experience in the field of (micro)kinetic modeling of catalytic reactions, numerical simulation and programming (e.g. Python) are required. In addition, good knowledge of the English language in word and writing are expected.Good German language skills are beneficial.Besides the professional qualification, strong commitment, team spirit, independent and self-responsible working is requested. We offer you an attractive and modern workplace with access to the excellent equipment of the KIT, a varied work, a wide range of training opportunities, flexible working time models, an allowance for the job ticket BW and a casino/cafeteria.We prefer to balance the number of employees (f/m/d). Therefore we kindly ask female applicants to apply for this job.Recognized severely disabled persons will be preferred if they are equally qualified. Please apply online until 31.03.2023 using the vacancy number 2060/2023 and the reference number 6 to Ms Raquel Carrasco Sánchez, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Kaiserstr. 12, 76131 Karlsruhe, Germany.
