Position Overview
The University of Kansas invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Jayhawk Finances within the Financial Aid & Scholarships office. This dynamic role involves coordinating and administering comprehensive financial literacy and financial wellness services for KU students. The Assistant Director will serve as a content expert, developing and marketing financial literacy programs, providing personalized coaching, delivering educational workshops, and facilitating staff training on financial wellness topics. This position will be cross-trained in both financial aid and financial literacy/wellness to ensure a holistic counseling experience for students.

Job Description
70%: Financial Education & Service Delivery
• Plan, coordinate, implement, and assess financial wellness workshops, classes, coaching sessions, online materials, events, and other financial wellness services or resources as they are identified.
• Develop, train, and execute a peer financial coaching program, supervising 5-10 student peer financial coaches that will deliver one-on-one coaching, presentations, outreach, and programming.
• Conduct one-on-one financial coaching appointments covering various financial literacy topics and offering escalation support for complex student financial issues.
• Monitor and address popular financial topics affecting diverse student populations, developing relevant educational programming and materials.
• Provide workshops and presentations upon request from campus partners.
30%: Projects, Assessment, & Collaboration
• Support Jayhawk Rising initiatives by developing outreach to vulnerable populations, collaborating with campus stakeholders to reduce loan debt and time to degree.
• Collaborate with UNIV 101 and other campus support services to develop a financial wellness curriculum.
• Provide assessment and reporting on all financial wellness programs.
• Support service delivery projects for the financial aid office, including calling projects, semester start-up services, and training.
Position Requirements
• This position will be on-site for the duration of training. At the conclusion of training, this position will primarily work on-site, but a limited hybrid work schedule may be considered upon approval of supervisor.
• The successful candidate is expected to assist with virtual and in-person programming. Occasional travel may be required for off-site events.
• Upon hire, work towards obtaining and maintaining a financial counseling or financial planning certification within one year of start date. Professional development funding will be provided for this requirement.
Required Qualifications
• Master's degree OR Bachelor's degree with three years of related experience in student affairs, teaching, curriculum and instruction, counseling, advising, financial education/financial coaching, or another relevant field.
• Experience in public speaking an creating engaging presentation materials.
• Clear and accurate communication skills for diverse audiences as demonstrated by application materials and interview process.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills for working with diverse stakeholders as demonstrated by application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Curriculum & Instruction, or another relevant area.
• Experience in online course development or online module design, especially within a learning management system such as Canvas, Blackboard, etc.
• Experience in personal financial planning or providing financial literacy education.
• Experience in training and evaluating students and professional staff.
• Financial planning certification (e.g., Accredited Financial Counselor, Certified Financial Planner, etc.).

Purpose of the position:
The Finance Professional 1 or 2 reports to the Human Resources Director at UMN Morris. This position administers the payroll entry, confirmation, and time and absence activity for over 372 non-student employees (320 FTE) at the Morris Campus, in all divisions and departments. The position will be assigned Finance Office duties that include, but are not limited to: reporting, budget preparation and entry as well as responsibility for student financials. The role requires a commitment to confidentiality, sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, gender, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

Job Duties:

Financial Reporting/Analysis and Budget Preparation (25%)
• Reconciles General Ledger activity; prepares Journal Entries if necessary for corrections and upholds financial policy on the Morris campus
• Run from the system and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and reconciliations for the Finance Manager and senior management
• Monitors account balances, initiates contact with departments when issues arise, and helps resolve
• Performs review and detailed entry for Position and Departmental Budgeting for Morris campus
• Prepares/processes budget journals entries, and subsequent combo codes as needed
• Aids department personnel in how to compile annual budgets
• Under the direction of the Finance Manager, reviews and pays sales tax for the Morris campus, and submits journal entry for posting.
Student Finance & Other duties (25%)
• Posting, reviewing, and reconciling, student payments and charges
• Enter third party billings on student accounts and reconcile payments
• Answer questions and resolve issues with student accounts
• Assist with special projects/reports as needed for the Finance Manager
• Complete other tasks as assigned by the Finance Manager
HRMS (25%)
• Responsible for the entry and maintenance of data in the human resource management system (HRMS).
TDX
• Help create Personnel Action Forms (PAF) to request position postings and employment changes and track them to completion.
• Using the completed PAF, request new hires and employment changes via TeamDynamix (TDX) system for entry via UMN Operations Center.
• Responsible for confirming and reconciling requested changes and following proper procedures to resolve discrepancies.
Payroll
• Reviews the bi-weekly payroll abstract and pre-payroll confirmation reports. Investigate problems and answer payroll questions.
• Responsible for adjustments and overpayments and communication to employees.

Time administrator
• Answer questions from employees and supervisors and help supervisors approve hours or provide back up approval when necessary. Run reports to identify errors.
Absence Administrator
• Answer employee and supervisor questions regarding vacation and sick use, investigate and make corrections if necessary. Run reports to confirm approvals and find errors.
Human Resources (25%)
• Answers questions from supervisors, employees and applicants regarding University work rules and bargaining unit agreements.
• I-9 - conduct I-9 employment verification. Maintain accuracy with E Verify I9's with updating information as necessary for applicable team members (including reverifications and visa renewals).
• Provides on-boarding orientation for all new non-student employees; reviews and explains the MyU web portal, its function and the university payroll calendar as it affects their pay.
• Assist in coordinating employment-related University programs and projects (exit interviews, performance appraisals, etc.).
• Maintain historical files according to University retention guidelines. Provides departmental and campus recommendations and resolves related issues.
Qualifications

Essential knowledge, skills and abilities:
• Finance Professional 1 - Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Accounting or Finance or a combination of related education and experience to equal four years.
• Finance Professional 2 - Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Accounting or Finance and 2 years of professional experience or a combination of related education and experience to equal six years.
• Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint software and Google applications.
• Proven analytical, organizational, and general office best practice skills.
• Demonstrated good verbal and written communication skills.
• Outstanding customer services skills.
Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:
