About the Opportunity

Our company is seeking Welder/Grinders to be a part of our Production and Delivery team. We are looking for individuals who are efficient and comfortable working in a team environment, have the ability to multi-task, while maintaining complex schedules. A Welder is responsible for completing welding tasks following the identified procedures in the routing books. This may include welding, grinding, sanding, cutting and cleaning of various parts to various locations on a vehicle or sub-welding parts for the main vehicle. Typical welding postures may include squatting, kneeling, crouching, bending and reaching at various working heights. Tasks required on the interior of the vehicle will require working within a vertical space of 105 to 135 cm and may involve crawling, crouching, stooping, bending, kneeling and/or lying down to access some areas.

Required Qualifications**:
• 1-year post-secondary education in a private welding school or community college or Journeyman Weld certificate.
• Candidates will possess Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) certificate in all positions.
• Minimum 1 year of welding & fitting experience in heavy manufacturing.

Preferred Qualifications:

DEFINITION

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is a journey level classification in the source control series. Incumbents initially perform the more routine assigned duties and work under close supervision. However, as experience is gained, incumbents are expected to perform the full range of duties as assigned with increasing independence. This class is distinguished from the WR Source Control Technician which is the... trainee level job classification requiring no direct experience. It is further distinguished from the Water Resources Coordinator in that the latter assumes administrative and supervisory responsibility for the source control program and the assigned source control staff.

Examples of Important and Essential Functions

Field Operations Functions

Inspects wastewater discharge sources, site runoff, and hazardous materials facilities; collects and analyzes samples; operates and maintains sampling equipment; and conducts educational outreach events and presentations.

Administrative Functions

Reviews plans for compliance with regulations; processes permits; maintains records and prepares correction and enforcement orders; gathers evidence for administrative and legal action; recommends ordinance changes to comply with State and Federal regulations; assists in preparation of recommendations for legal action; recommends enforcement action; works persuasively and tactfully to gain cooperation of industrial and commercial firms and residents in resolving problems; works closely with Fire Department to coordinate hazardous materials activities and record keeping; and uses personal computer to perform word processing, spreadsheets, and specialized functions.

Experience, Education, and Training Guidelines:

Any combination of experience, education, and training that would provide the best qualified candidates. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Experience: One year of experience conducting industrial waste inspections, stormwater inspections, wastewater laboratory work, or similar related work in the wastewater/storm water inspection field.

Education: Equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by two years of college course work in an engineering/scientific field which included chemistry, biology, environmental science, or other related science courses. A Bachelor’s degree is highly desirable.

Training: Any recent training such as academic courses and certification programs which are relevant to this job classification.

License: Possession of a valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record as determined by the City.

Certification: Possession of a California Water Environment Association Environmental Compliance Inspector Grade I certificate is required prior to the completion of the probationary period.

Other Requirements: Willingness and ability to work regular and emergency overtime and be on-call, as required; work under all conditions such as dust, pollen, chemical, heat, cold, inclement weather, and in the presence of noxious odors; travel out of town to attend meetings, seminars, and conferences during work and non work hours; and respond to notifications of spills and discharges.

Overview
