Liberty Science Center (LSC) is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Exhibit Technician (Exhibit Tech) with a specialization in mechanical systems, electronics, and software to support the daily operations, maintenance, and repair of our exhibitions.

The Exhibit Technician reports to the Senior Manager of Exhibit Services.

What You'll Do
LSC's Exhibit Technician will perform some combination of the following tasks and responsibilities; however, this is not an exhaustive list so other things may arise as special exhibit needs arise.

Exhibit Maintenance:
• Responsible for daily operations of all Liberty Science Center exhibits, including daily start-up and shut-down procedures for all exhibits, and ensuring all exhibits are operationally functional when the building is open, including during evening and private events
• Respond promptly to radio calls that identify exhibit issues on the Floor
• Troubleshoot technical problems related to audiovisual, lighting, and interactive systems down to the component level, diagnosing and resolving issues efficiently
• Operate oscilloscopes, generators, meters, hand & power tools, as well as service and test computers
• Test, repair, or replace audio, video, network, and specialty wiring between components. Solder to make repairs and fix device components
• Conduct preventive maintenance activities to ensure the exhibits are in optimal working condition, including testing, cleaning, and replacing components
• Create and maintain accurate record keeping and documentation of exhibit maintenance logs, repair history, and inventory management
• Provide up-to-date information to supervisors, co-workers, and other internal personnel

Technology Support and Integration:
• Support the installation, fabrication, evaluation, and dismantling of exhibits, ensuring proper integration of audiovisual, lighting, and interactive technology components
• Utilize mechanical drawings, schematics, and product manuals to repair and maintain exhibit technology systems
• Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends related to exhibit technology, recommending innovative solutions for enhancing visitor experiences

Safety and Compliance:
• Adhere to safety protocols and risk management procedures while working in public areas and workspaces, ensuring a safe environment for visitors and staff
• Maintain a clean, organized, and clutter-free work environment, following proper storage and disposal procedures for hazardous materials

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
• Strong technical aptitude and problem-solving skills in troubleshooting complex technical, audiovisual, lighting, and interactive technology systems
• Solid understanding of electrical and mechanical principles, including wiring, connections, and basic circuitry
• Knowledgeable in the use of basic carpentry techniques, hand tools, power tools, paints and adhesives, and associated safety practices
• Familiarity with control systems, microcontrollers, automation systems (e.g., Crestron), programming languages (e.g., Raspberry Pi, Arduino), and operating systems (e.g., Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Google Chrome) is highly desirable
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret design schematics, shop/fabrication drawings, and standard business documents
• Ability to communicate effectively through writing, telephone or in-person
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment while demonstrating a high level of professionalism, integrity, and dedication to delivering quality work

Preferred Qualifications
• 2+ years of experience providing mechanical and technical maintenance and fabrication support
• Associate degree, vocational school certification, or other postsecondary education in a relevant technical field, such as engineering, computing, design, and fabrication, is considered an asset
• Prior experience working in a museum, gallery, or similar high-traffic environment is a plus

Classification and Schedule
This is a part-time, non-exempt position, which means this role is eligible for the overtime provision for any hours that extend beyond the standard 40-hour work week at LSC. The ideal candidate must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as business needs or special events require

Physical Demands
The Exhibit Technician is required to be on their feet a majority of the day and use their hands to manipulate tools and materials. The Tech will need to perform diagnostics via visual and audio cues and should be comfortable working at various heights, including working on ladders. Furthermore, the Exhibit Technician should be comfortable maneuvering through large crowds as well as have a tolerance for working in chaotic or loud environments. The ability to lift 40 lbs. will be necessary.

Training will be provided to the Exhibit Technician for the safe operation of the following lifts; scissor, toucan, and fork lift.

Guarantee compliance with applicable building and safety codes, OSHA recommendations, state inspections, hazardous waste disposal, MSDS documentation, and other public health concerns. Assist with weather emergencies or any other emergency issues that may arise. Manage third party vendor contracts in this area and ensure that team members are being held accountable to contract terms. Security Operations: Protect our guests, employees, vehicles, and equipment. Work closely with the facility teams and the Chief People Officer and Sr, Director of Guest Experience to create and implement an extensive Safety Management and Emergency Management Plan. Develop and maintain institutional standards that reflect current best practices, including evacuation plans, security operation manuals, accident and incident reports, fire and natural disaster plans, active shooter protocols, guest emergencies and removals, and related materials. Ensure all staff are trained on all safety protocols. Ensure regular inspections and surveys of the interior and exterior of the building are conducted to proactively identify potential risks and recommend corrective action. Exhibit Services: Ensure an efficient process for executing the regular cleaning, maintenance, safety analysis, setup and breakdown of temporary exhibits and troubleshooting of all gallery exhibits and components. This includes the efficient running of LSC’s production shop and the skilled technicians working behind the scenes. Ensure Exhibit Technicians are proactive as well as responsive to keep all exhibits running smoothly. Coordinate with other departments such as IT and Exhibit Design and Development on creative and efficient upgrades as needed for a successful guest experience. Animal Husbandry: Work closely with the Animal Husbandry team to ensure the effective management of animal habitats and animal care, including but not limited to the operations and maintenance of exhibit spaces, life support systems, and aquatic tanks. Ensure collaboration between Husbandry team and other Facilities teams, such as Engineering and Exhibit Services, to manage projects and respond to maintenance issues and upgrades. Serve as a thought partner on recruiting, training, animal care, acquisition and handling, documentation, and other departmental concerns. Capital Planning & Projects: Through a thorough understanding of LSC’s current infrastructure needs and equipment life cycles, build a strategic capital planning process that meets the needs of the institution and works within the assigned CapEx budget. Guarantee the proper execution of LSC’s expansion projects, facility renovations and equipment upgrades, and other building projects, including maintaining robust communication with all stakeholders, data collection, and financial alignment through all phases o f an LSC project life cycle. Budget, Contracts, and Union Management: Provide strategic planning and management of all financial resources across the LSC’s facilities function. Ensure proper budgeting and expenditures within constrained resources that are common for a nonprofit. Track and analyze budgetary and financial information. Maximize supply chain, competitive sourcing, and procurement activities. Oversee process for hiring vendors, consultants, contractors, etc., including developing the scope of work and assessing work quality. Maintain positive working relationships with union representatives and ensure all tasks are performed in compliance with union contracts. This position reports to the Director of Animal Husbandry.

What You'll Do
The Animal Keeper (Aquarist) will:
• Provide and oversee care of the aquatic animal population, totaling 20,000 gallons, with individual aquaria as large as 7,000 gallons
• Perform daily cleaning, diet preparation, feedings, enrichment, training & observations of animals, and maintenance of exhibits and life support systems
• Assist with ongoing care for the remainder of the live animal population, including invertebrates, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and mammals
• Maintain an intimate knowledge of animal health, exhibits, life support system operation, inventory, animal transport, quarantine procedures, species id and compatibility, disease recognition and animal ambassador protocols consistent with the highest standards of animal welfare
• Implement high quality standards for exhibits and back of house spaces to clean, well-organized, and hazard free work areas
• Input and maintain accurate records of daily observations and animal care data into databases
• Repair and maintenance of life support equipment, including pumps, UV sterilizers, protein skimmers, sand filters, plumbing, etc
• Train, supervise, and evaluate interns and volunteers
• Participate in programs and public activities as directed
• Perform lab work, such as regular water quality testing and necropsy as needed
• Assist in the planning and operation of specimen collection trips
• Collaborate on ideating, developing and producing creative solutions that serve to strengthen LSC's brand, mission, and revenue

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
• Candidates should have thorough knowledge of animal husbandry practices, keeper safety, exhibit and life support system maintenance
• Familiarity with aquarium systems including life support systems, aquatic animal husbandry, maintenance needs, and quarantine protocols

Supervisory Responsibilities
Animal Keeper will share supervisory responsibilities of interns and volunteers with other Animal Husbandry Department staff.

Classification and Schedule
This is a regular full-time, non-exempt position, meaning you are eligible for overtime. This role is eligible for full benefits. The regular schedule will include one weekend day. The ideal candidate must be available to work a flexible schedule that includes emergency response, and occasional early mornings, evenings, and holidays. This position is an essential service position, and will be required to provide services during emergency situations.

Physical Demands
This position will require significant physical effort on a daily basis such as walking, bending, stooping, climbing ladders, reaching above the head, repetitive motions, lifting and carrying heavy objects (up to 60 pounds), or standing for long periods. This position will require the ability to effectively perform dive procedures in LSC's aquaria. This position may require the ability to make coordinated gross motor movements in response to changing external stimuli within moderately demanding tolerances. This position requires the ability to withstand exposure to nuts, legumes, and high levels of noises and crowds. This position will involve work in wet or humid environments, from heights, or in confined spaces. This position will require the ability to use and handle hooks, tongs, nets, and other animal handling equipment. This position will include exposure to potentially dangerous animals, including venomous animals. Candidates must have immunocompetence and be able to work in an environment with possible exposure to zoonoses.

The Animal Keeper will at times operate standard office equipment, such as a computer, printer, and phone. In addition, the Animal Keeper will frequently carry and operate a two-way radio.

Compensation

The Role...
The Manager of Public Programs is responsible for the creative development and delivery of meaningful and inventive programs that support Liberty Science Center's mission and exhibitions. The Manager of Public Programs reports to the Senior Director of School and Public Programs and works collaboratively with colleagues across Liberty Science Center.

What You'll Bring
As an innovator and tinkerer who is tapped into the maker community, you are an experienced builder with a pulse on new trends and emerging products in VR, AR, and display technologies. Most importantly, you thrive on being a gadget and tech geek and can easily incorporate trends and emerging tech into the creation and delivery of high-impact science demos and shows at LSC. Taking a concept from design to prototype is easy for you. Lastly, not only do you enjoy delivering high-energy presentations to the public but also can mentor a team to do the same.

What You'll Do
The Manager of Public Programs will prioritize work streams in the following two areas:

Program Development & Delivery
• Oversee the development, production, and delivery of live public engagement events at LSC
• Research, develop, plan, and create interactive experiences that elevate the guest experiences at LSC
• Research, develop, plan and coordinate public engagement programs for existing audiences, both onsite and online, in collaboration with other departments at LSC
• Lead planning and production meetings with internal and external partners to generate and shape content for LSC's walk-up audience
• Liaise with artists, makers, technologists, and other external partners/vendors to curate pop-up programming or other floor activities that showcase cutting-edge science and technology innovations
• Manage operational aspects of public programming, including scheduling, training, budgeting, and safety
• Work with multiple departments within the organization on programmatic and production elements for live events
• Other responsibilities as assigned to meet the needs of the business

Staff Management & Training
• Oversee the Public Programs team that delivers programming across the institution, including hiring, training, and evaluation
• Collaborate with Animal Husbandry in the training of staff for animal-based programming
• Collaborate with STEM Education in staff training for engagement and science communication
• Create and execute a year-long project plan for program development and program delivery

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs)
• Ability to operate as an ambassador for Liberty Science Center in delivering on our mission; passionate about the mission of LSC and the value of science education
• Passionate about the maker movement and a natural tinkerer
• Experience in creating props and interactive experiences
• Technical skills related to live performances are a must
• Knowledge of emerging technology and technical skills in projections, sounds, and video is a huge plus
• Ability to lead a team and work independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to seek external partners to bring experiences to guest programs
• Excellent organization, time, and project management skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; a high degree of emotional intelligence with the ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships across the organization

Preferred Qualifications
• 3+ years of experience developing and implementing large-scale programming for guests, theatrical productions, or live events with artists
• 2+ years of people management experience
• Experience working in a Maker Space is a plus
• Bachelor's degree in a related field, preferably science or museum studies

Supervisory Responsibilities
The Manager of Public Programs will directly supervise a team, including the Coordinator of Animal Programs and a group of STEM Presenters.

Classification & Schedule
Manager of Public Programs is a full-time, exempt position eligible for full benefits. This Manager must have the ability to work on-site at LSC and be available to work a flexible schedule. This role must be available to be scheduled on weekends. The flex schedule may also include occasional early mornings, evenings, or holidays as business needs or special events may require.

Physical/Environmental Demands
• Ability to travel within the metropolitan area as required to perform the above duties
• Comfort with a fast-paced, multi-tasking tempo and a regard for a detail-oriented work environment while remaining collaborative and flexible
• Occasionally work may be conducted outdoors, exposure to varied weather conditions.
• Ability to lift up to 30lbs

What You'll Do
• Take ownership of the stewardship and ongoing solicitation of a portfolio of corporate members and donors
• Develop and implement annual and long-term Corporate Membership strategies and goals to identify, research, cultivate, and solicit prospects with the support of VP of External Affairs
• Ensure the positive onboarding experience for Corporate Members, including ongoing communication and retention of Corporate Member companies
• Conduct ongoing stewardship, including in-person meetings, tours, and visits
• Actively work to present upsell opportunities to donors around Corporate Membership upgrades, gala tickets and tables, corporate entertaining, and exhibition and program sponsorship
• Achieve aggressive corporate fundraising targets to produce unrestricted annual operating funds for LSC
• Create, develop, and manage the production of all corporate membership materials, including information packets, slide decks, materials, benefit sheets, and corporate membership web pages
• Develop and deliver compelling presentations and reports
• Maintain thorough knowledge of current and planned LSC programs, exhibits and marketing initiatives for the purposes of accurately and persuasively communicating with corporate audiences
• Coordinate communication across LSC departments to ensure accurate and timely fulfillment of sponsorship agreements
• Maintain the accuracy of corporate contact and outreach in a database
• Manage corporate expense and income budgets
• Collaborate with other External Affairs team members on a range of fundraising and cultivation initiatives
• Attend and assist with cultivation and special events as requested
• Perform other duties as required

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
The ideal candidate possesses a combination of the following KSAs:
• Knowledge of marketing strategies for securing corporate giving
• Strong business management principles involving strategic planning and resources allocation
• Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communications, professional negotiating skills, and diplomacy

Classification and Schedule
This is a full-time, exempt position. The ideal candidate must be flexible in schedule with the ability to attend membership/development or LSC events on evenings, early mornings, or weekends as necessary.

Physical and Environmental Demands
While performing the duties of this job, this employee needs to be able to work in an open office environment with low to moderate noise level. This employee will need the ability to sit for an extended period of time at a computer and be able to use standard office equipment such as a phone, copier, and scanner. This employee must also have the ability to travel off site to visit with potential corporate partners.

Travel
This position may require local travel. Must have a valid driver's license and access to a car.

Compensation
Compensation for this position is commensurate with abilities, education, certifications, and previous experience but is estimated to be in the range of $60,000-$75,000.
