The School District of Beloit has an opening for a Home School Liaison for McNeel Intermediate School. This position is for 7 hours a day. This is a full time/one semester only position based on 183 days per year (prorated for 2022-2023). Candidates should have experience working with children from diverse backgrounds, demonstrate flexibility, patience, and be able to work as part of a team. Required qualifications: High School diploma or GED. All Para-educators hired by the School District of Beloit must complete one of the following: An associate's degree, forty eight (48) credits, or an assessment indicating knowledge in reading, writing, and math. A high school diploma is necessary, but not sufficient. Candidate must hold or be willing to obtain the Wisconsin Para-educator license. Rate of pay is $16.42/hour. Start date is: ASAP. Summary

The Home School Liaison provides support to the instructional program with specific responsibilities for providing information on programs and services available to students and their families as well as school and / or district activities and procedures; referring families to other agencies; and fostering an ongoing partnership between the home and school.

Duties and responsibilities
• Demonstrate cultural competence in working with, supporting and engaging diverse groups of school community stakeholders.
• Demonstrate and develop in others cultural proficiency related to honoring the cultural norms, nuances and needs of all groups represented within your school community.
• Assists students, staff, teachers, parents and community members (e.g. applications for services, transporting parents/students, interpreting technical information, etc.) for the purpose of providing and/or conveying information and other services required by parents or teachers.
• Communicates with parents on behalf of school (e.g. attendance and homework issues, available programs/services, completing paperwork, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that an ongoing partnership between the home and school is formed.
• Conducts parent meetings as assigned for the purpose of gaining information and/or discussing needs and problems involving students and their families.
• Confers with teachers, parents and/or appropriate community agency personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluating student progress and/or implementing student objectives.
• Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic lists and records (e.g. activity logs, phone logs, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing up-to-date reference and audit trail and/or ensuring the availability of items.
• Organizes a variety of activities for the purpose of providing support to the school and parents, showcasing students' talents and abilities, and celebrating the diversity of the community.
• Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines.
• Refers students and their families to outside agencies (e.g. state agencies, medical professionals, counselors, foundations, charities, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the needs of students and families are met.
• Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources (e.g. parents, students, teachers, staff, outside agencies, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required.
• Visits families and students in their homes as required for the purpose of assessing situations, improving communication, providing information regarding school policies and programs, and/or providing referrals.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED
• Ability to pass Para Assessment Test
• Experience working with diverse stakeholder communities.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Associate's Degree or 48 credits from a post-secondary institution.

Working conditions

Position is located in a school building. Work will be performed primarily at two assigned school campuses.

Physical requirements

Continually traversing corridors. Occasionally in a stationary position, sitting or standing, for up to 4 hours. Operates office and/or medical equipment. Frequently lifts/moves/carries objects or students up to 60 pounds. Frequently must position self to heights under 3' by stooping or squatting.
