GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
You manage the implementation of the Museum’s conservation and documentation system, across all conservation departments and scientific research while working closely with staff in those areas to ensure a successful transition to the new system. You prepare and plan the launch of the new system, establish new workflows, and create best practices for conservation documentation. You are responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of the TMS system and will continue to collaborate with conservation staff in addressing their documentation needs.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
• Plan system implementation and ensure all vendor requirements and deadlines are met.
• Manage data cleanup projects in preparation for data migration.
• Conduct thorough user and system administration testing prior to launch.
• Lead conservation staff in identifying and designing new workflows.
• Establish best practices and standards for conservation documentation in partnership with conservation staff.
• Create custom program configurations, including screens and security settings.
• Manage and plan system upgrades in collaboration with Manager of Collection Information.
• Serve as primary contact with the vendor
• Manage large scale data projects
• Performs ongoing activities and training to maintain and enhance TMS system
Education and Experience:
• Degree in Art History, Museum Studies, Information Science, or equivalent experience
• 2-5 years working with museum cataloguing or collections management
• Experience with The Museum System (TMS)
• Knowledge and understanding of relational database systems
• SQL Server skills (or other relational database skills)
• Experience with end-user training; verbal and written communication skills
• Organizational, proofreading, and analytical skills
COMPENSATION RANGE:
• Pay Range: $85,000 - $100,000
• The advertised pay scale reflects the good faith minimum and maximum salary range for this role. The advertised pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage for any specific employee. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, special licensing or qualifications, and other factors.
Location Requirements

The Met’s Department of Education—dedicated to making art meaningful and accessible for everyone— is central to the mission of the Museum. The Department is a national and international leader in museum-based education and public programming, pushing boundaries through continuous innovation and experimentation. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the world’s finest museums, seeks an Educator in Charge, Teaching and Learning. In a typical year, the Metropolitan Museum of Art has over 6.5 million onsite visitors and since March 2020 has seen over 10 million online visitors to our virtual, hybrid and in-person programs and experiences. It is critical that we engage with both local and global contexts in new, exciting ways. We also wish to utilize and position our collection to encourage greater access and dialogue with and among scholars, artists, educators and families alike. This next chapter for the Education Department is guided by The Met’s overall Vision 2025.
You are a skilled and experienced Education leader who will serve as a key programmatic partner to stakeholders across the museum and with local and global communities. You will oversee Teaching and Learning programs and initiatives including program development for collections, special exhibitions, and new installations. You will develop virtual and onsite programs that promote cross disciplinary learning and cultural understanding through in-person, virtual, and digital interactive experiences.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
• Depth of experience conceiving and managing a range of programs for schools, educators, families, teens, as well as teaching practice, curriculum development and pedagogy in an art museum setting
• Develop and implement strategic vision and goals for the Teaching and Learning Division and lead evaluation efforts to determine success, changes, needs, and impact
• Proven leadership managing diverse teams and cultivating creativity and innovation
• Ability to initiate, foster and manage authentic relationships with partners
• Ability to foster inclusive and equitable experiences for various audiences
• Establish processes for program development that represent best practices, ensure smooth workflow, and effective collaboration
• Assess content, formats, and audiences of existing programs and propose innovations and initiatives to reach new audiences, and support new narratives and conversations onsite and online
• Oversee the area’s budget, analyzing and making recommendations for programs and work closely with the Chair of Education and Development to secure program support
• Supervise staff and instill high performance levels and accountability
• Ability to conceive, build and manage partnerships
• Establish and grow partnerships with key external organizations and/or leaders to develop dynamic collaborations, interdisciplinary approaches, and expanded audiences
• Promote direct engagement with works of art
• Provide variety and diversity in the visitor experience
• Foster local, national, and international partnerships
• Collaborate with other members of Education senior staff and with staff throughout the Museum on program ideation, implementation and promotion

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
• M.A. in Art History, Museum Education, or other related field, or equivalent experience required
• 7 years related experience within an art museum;
• 5years of demonstrated experience in museum education and gallery teaching
• Track record of developing and managing a complex schedule of inclusive educational and public programs related to special exhibitions, gallery rotations, access, community and special projects that serve a broad and diverse audience
• Demonstrable record of collaboration with development in fundraising initiatives for Education programs in a museum context
• Experience with strategic planning, project management, staff oversight, and budgeting and financial duties.
• Demonstrated record of effective negotiation and collaboration with diverse range of stakeholders within a large cultural institution and with outside partners and organizations
• Demonstrated experience in collaborating with development colleagues in fundraising for education initiatives in a museum context
• Full familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required

You will help shape, expand, sustain, improve, maintain, and protect the museum’s facilities, the collection, the public and staff. You will manage a wide range of short and long-term construction and facilities special projects, working in collaboration with stakeholders across the organization. • Coordinate with other departmental leaders such as - curators, administrators, designers, conservators, and facilities to ensure all stages of a project is properly accomplished
• Occasionally assist in management of union shops personnel particularly as it relates to Museum maintenance, exhibitions fit out, construction and art installation
• Assist with enhancements and maintenance of The Museum satellite properties
• Ensure risks and Issues are tracked, mitigated, and resolved effectively
• Serve as liaison for capital projects
• Other related duties as assigned by management
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
• 2 - 4 years’ experience in Facilities Management, Building Maintenance, Budgeting, Construction Project Management and/or MEP Project Management. Experience working in a museum/art environment a plus
• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field is required (Engineering, Construction Management, project management, etc.). MBA or equivalent certification in construction project management preferred
• Ability to read and comprehend construction drawings and specifications for all disciplines of work; delegate related direction to trades for efficiency and quality of work
• Prepare, provide updates and reports on productivity and project milestones on a cadence to management and senior leadership
• Experience preparing construction plans, safety procedures, quality work plans, etc.
• Manage internal and external business relationships, and to proactively cause and manage change as it pertains to special projects.
• Skilled in financial management of projects, organizational and time management
• Review cost estimates for changes to contracts for submission and negotiate, present final vendor’s agreement to key stakeholders and client for approval

COMPENSATION RANGE:
• Pay Range: $85,000 - $100,000

You will serve as the main project manager for emerging technology pilots and partnerships, working with cross functional project teams and/or senior staff in the six DEPILL departments (Digital, Education, Publications, Imaging, Libraries, and Live Arts). The Museum seeks an inspiring and experienced Educator responsible for strategic planning, conceptualization, development, and implementation of Creative Practice and Community Engagement initiatives within the Museum and with collaborating communities. This person will be a key liaison between the public, artists and The Met’s curators and scholars.
The Managing Educator, Community Engagement and Practice will design, implement, and evaluate programs for new and existing adult and intergenerational audiences. Through collaboration with artists, community members, scholars, curators and practitioners, the Managing Educator designs and implements relevant programs responsive to our contemporary world and finds ways to promote public engagement with scholarship and research. The Managing Educator is responsible for supporting artists, curators and communities in expanding narratives and engaging new audiences with The Mets collection, new exhibitions, projects etc. This position and support staff is a key partner and collaborator in the creation, design and implementation of festivals
The Managing Educator, Community Engagement and Practice works with a dynamic group of colleagues across the Museum and reports to the Educator in Charge.

• Create, develop, and oversee new and innovative multigenerational art-making opportunities as a part of the Museum’s engagement with adult audiences, including older adults
• Contribute and collaborate on internal and external projects related to community engagement and audience development to include large-scale museum festivals.

Under general supervision, responsible for the performance of general building and office cleaning; this includes sidewalks, steps, snow removal and other areas outside the Museum building.

• Emptying wet trash/recycling receptacles and placing material into appropriate compactors or holding areas

• Cleaning of toilets, washbasins and other restroom fixtures and floors
• Cleaning from ladders, rigs
• Application of floor refinishing products.
• May be assigned to heavy duty moving work
• Provide indoor and outdoor grounds maintenance duties as assigned by Buildings management
• Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

About The Department
The Department of Objects Conservation is responsible for the conservation and mounting/installation of three-dimensional art at the Museum’s two venues. The scope of the Objects Conservation’s mission-critical responsibilities extends to every curatorial department and all of the Museum’s collections-based activities, including acquisitions, deaccessioning, exhibitions, capital projects, scholarly research, teaching and outreach, etc. The substantial scope of work includes over 7,000 completed object requests annually and the variation in scale ranges from single beads to historic interiors and architectural stone elements embedded in the Museum’s buildings.

About The Department
The Department of Objects Conservation is responsible for the conservation and mounting/installation of three-dimensional art at the Museum’s two venues. The scope of the Objects Conservation’s mission-critical responsibilities extends to every curatorial department and all of the Museum’s collections-based activities, including acquisitions, deaccessioning, exhibitions, capital projects, scholarly research, teaching and outreach, etc. The substantial scope of work includes over 7,000 completed object requests annually and the variation in scale ranges from single beads to historic interiors and architectural stone elements embedded in the Museum’s buildings.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITES & DUTIES:
The Department of Objects Conservation at The Metropolitan Museum of Art upholds the highest professional standards in the conservation of the Museum’s three-dimensional works of art. The Associate Conservator will be one of two objects conservators dedicated to the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art and will be primarily responsible for furniture, objects, and historic interiors comprised of wood and/or other modern materials. The two conservators will act as liaisons for activities related to the relocation of the collection of objects from the Modern and Contemporary Department during the preparation and construction work on the Oscar L. Tang and H.M. Agnes Hsu-Tang Wing.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILIES & DUTIES:
• Conserve relevant objects, including examination, research, treatment, and oversight of environmental conditions in storerooms and galleries.
• Examine and document objects for incoming or outgoing loans, acquisition, and gifts.
• Study objects for questions of material identification and technology, including use of analytical instrumentation such as X-ray radiography and microscopy.
• Prepare samples for analysis by the Department of Scientific Research, and communicate with scientists regarding goals and results.
• Liaise with conservators, conservation preparators, curators, technicians, handlers, Buildings staff, Exhibitions staff, and the Registrar’s Office on incoming and outgoing loans, exhibitions, permanent gallery rotations, and storage.
• Prepare visual and written documentation of treatments and research, and file according to departmental protocols.
• Travel domestically and internationally as needed to examine, treat, and courier artworks in connection with acquisitions and/or loans.
• Supervise departmental end date or junior conservators, fellows, and students.
• Assist with time-sensitive projects as assigned by Conservator in Charge.
• Participate in departmental fundraising activities.
• Broaden knowledge of the conservation field by taking advantage of the department’s expertise and resources, and the Museum's opportunities for professional development.
• Disseminate activities and findings on a range of platforms including public and professional lectures, and print and digital publications.
• Participate in Museum-wide committees and initiatives as appropriate.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience And Skills
• At least five years of conservation experience working with wooden objects, furniture, and historic interiors required.
• Experience working in a museum preferred.

• Excellent hand skills, attention to detail, and ability to produce consistent results required
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills required.
• Skill using conservation documentation and investigative tools—including digital photography, high-resolution digital microscopy, and X-ray radiography—preferred
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work on a ladder or rig required.
Knowledge and Education:
• Master’s degree from an internationally-recognized graduate conservation program required.
• FDNY C-14 Laboratory Certificate of Fitness or willingness and ability to attain certification within six months of hire required.
