POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mentor Support Manager provides and coordinates wrap-around services to schools and Michigan Virtual mentors both on-site and virtually. This will involve regular two-way interaction with multiple internal teams, as well as, external school users including school administrators and mentors to ensure quality support is provided to students in our online learning environment. This position serves as a forward-facing representation of the organization in the field by providing support directly to the schools we support and sharing best practices in the area of mentoring online students at professional conferences and events. Additionally, this position will be responsible for supervising our Student Success Coaches who work directly with students and their mentors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Effectively communicates, able to collaborate with diverse stakeholders (students, parents, mentors, teachers, administrators, Michigan Virtual teams).
• Supervises and provides direction for the Student Success coaches
• Train Affiliation users on how to create, enroll, drop, and associate mentors to students.
• Train Mentors on how to use the Student Learning Portal, Brightspace, and the Best Practices of Mentoring.
• Delivers presentations in collaboration with Professional Learning Services to stakeholders in the education field on the mentor role in online learning, acting as an advocate for the role.
• Provide consultation to partner districts in support of mentor programs to help student success rates.
• Works collaboratively with the Student Learning Services team and other Michigan Virtual teams to meet the needs of Michigan Virtual mentors to support student success, including professional development for mentors and hosting the annual Mentor Collaboration of the Minds
• Responsible for all program planning, organizing, reporting and operating as it relates to mentors and coaches (including Section 98 legislative directives).
• Measures performance and improves quality of services (including collection of feedback) related to mentoring support, coaching and training.
• Oversees the Mentor Advisory Board in coordination with Student Learning Services and Professional Learning Services.
• Identifies and communicates best practices for all Michigan Virtual mentors, including Pupil Accounting practices.
• Informs leadership of program issues, changes, and accomplishments.
• Attends and contributes to key organizational events such as bi-weekly SLS Synergy Sessions and Student Focus Groups among others.
• On-site attendance is mandatory for both bi-weekly staff meetings (Synergy) and the annual conference (Collaboration of the Minds)

REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, & LICENSES (minimum requirements):
• Bachelor’s degree
• Holds a current and valid teaching certificate in the State of Michigan

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (minimum requirements):
• Successful Michigan Virtual Mentor for a minimum of 2-4 years
• Experience with online courses (as a student taking a course online or teaching a course online) for a minimum of 1-2 years

DESIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
• Master’s degree or higher
• Successful experience teaching online learning environment
• Minimum of 4-6 years teaching experience in a secondary school/classroom
• Prior experience in a leadership capacity

The Teacher is a highly qualified, state certified educator responsible for delivering specific course content in an online environment. Teachers provide instruction, support, and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students' individual needs. Teachers monitor student progress through Stride K12's learning management system.
