The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is a globally recognized organization committed to promoting sustainable fishing practices. The MSC website serves as an information hub, offering insights into their mission, initiatives, and certification program. The organization's primary goal is to safeguard the world's oceans and ensure seafood is sourced from fisheries that meet their rigorous sustainability standards. This is achieved through a comprehensive certification process, which evaluates fisheries against three core principles: sustainable fish stocks, minimal environmental impact, and effective fisheries management. By providing reliable and accessible information, the MSC website aims to educate consumers, businesses, and fishery stakeholders about sustainable seafood choices and the importance of preserving marine ecosystems.
theguardian.comThe Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) manages the labelling system that tells consumers which species of fish they can buy safe in the knowledge they aren't destroying stocks.
Now, in early 2021, three fisheries have gained MSC certification, 20 suppliers have Chain of Custody (CoC) certification, and there are many fisheries improvement projects underway.msc.orgIn 2018, the MSC began to establish a presence in Indonesia, the world's second largest seafood producing country, after China.
More than 10 million tons of seafood worldwide comes from MSC certified sustainable fisheries.msc.orgFounded in 1997, the MSC created the first and still most recognized certification for wild, sustainable seafood. Now, 20 years later, we have seen firsthand the power of positive change.
