The North Carolina General Assembly’s Bill Drafting Division provides nonpartisan drafting and revision services to the 170 Legislators and committees. The Bill Processing department within the Bill Drafting Division is seeking a detail-oriented individual with outstanding writing, editing, and communication skills to fill a Legislative Document Specialist position. The individual chosen for this position will work with the Bill Processing team to accomplish tasks associated with the creation of State legislation by reviewing and editing documents using established legislative drafting guidelines. Examples of the documents include bill drafts, proposed committee substitutes, amendments, and ratifications. Other possible duties include document preparation, proofreading draft reports and policies, office filing, and review of electronic updates to the General Statutes. The highest degree of confidentiality in document handling and processing is required of these positions.

Examples of Duties :
• Review documents for spelling, grammar, typographical, and consistency errors.
• Electronically format documents to meet drafting style requirements.
• Communicate with attorneys and other staff members to facilitate necessary document modifications.
• Monitor legislative actions in order to expedite real-time document preparation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES:
• Excellent grammar and writing skills, with superb attention to detail.
• Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to research and organize information within prescribed, often narrow, time frames.

The Fiscal Research Division (FRD) seeks an economist that has significant knowledge of and experience in applied economics and statistical techniques, as well as a sophisticated understanding of the impact of economic conditions on state-level revenues. FRD staff is nonpartisan and serves as the primary budget and finance support to the North Carolina General Assembly’s 170 members, as well as its funding and policy committees. The budget and finance issues for which FRD staff have responsibility are complex, diverse, and cross multiple subject areas.

Economist Job Duties :

The position's primary focus will be fiscal and economic impact analysis on various legislative proposals affecting state-level revenue. The anticipated duties and responsibilities for this position are as follows:

• Presentation of objective analyses of fiscal policy issues to legislative committees in a public setting before an audience of diverse interests and opinions.

Work experience (internships, client projects, etc.) accumulated while in an academic setting can be applied to meet the experience requirements.
