The department head will provide visionary direction to the department and will embrace a collegial management and leadership style that utilizes input from faculty, staff, and students in making critical decisions.
The Head will serve as the Department’s academic leader and administrative officer and will be expected to: create an environment that facilitates an effective shared vision; proactively lead departmental academic, research and outreach activities in the context of a broad vision of statistics; promote an inclusive and culturally competent environment with a strong commitment to recruiting and retaining diverse faculty, staff, and students; promote, recognize, and reward faculty research, excellence in teaching and mentoring, and excellence in outreach including communicating science to the public and enhancing K-12 science; provide programs and opportunities for students to develop research and leadership skills; effectively link programs within the department to the broader college and university missions; foster a culture of high-impact interdisciplinary research and collaboration within the college and build partnerships and alliances across the university; provide leadership in advancing departmental and college academic excellence within the university as well as relative to peer institutions; provide leadership in developing external partnerships as well as fundraising in support of the department’s mission and goals; and continue a nationally and internationally recognized research program and demonstrate strong abilities in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels for statistics.

The Department of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management is searching for a faculty member in Fashion Design and Product Development.
Responsibilities include teaching, independent scholarly research, and participation in recruitment, shared governance, and other activities of the Department, the Wilson College of Textiles and the University.
The successful candidate will need to have demonstrated experience and competence in pattern making, apparel construction, computerized patternmaking, fashion development processes, CAD , and 3D visualization. Skilled knowledge of product data management, portfolio evaluation and presentation is highly valued. Essential Job Duties
The Department of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management is searching for a faculty member in Fashion Design and Product Development.
Responsibilities include teaching, independent scholarly research, and participation in recruitment, shared governance, and other activities of the Department, the Wilson College of Textiles and the University.
The successful candidate will need to have demonstrated experience and competence in pattern making, apparel construction, computerized patternmaking, fashion development processes, CAD , and 3D visualization. Skilled knowledge of product data management, portfolio evaluation and presentation is highly valued. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will be proficient in fashion development processes , creative and entrepreneurial thinking, and the use of design technologies and textile materials to creatively build prototypical products that meet the needs of consumers and customers worldwide.
Must be able to communicate and work effectively with faculty, students, laboratory and studio equipment, and staff.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate competence in quantitative/qualitative research methods that advance knowledge in the field, build a record of successful grant writing, and be capable of collaborating with industry partners on projects and research.

Other Work/Responsibilities
The person in this position must possess a high degree of horticulture subject matter competence. They must also have excellent public speaking skills, verbal and written communication skills, outstanding people skills, and effective teaching skills for in person and virtual educational programs. Additionally, the person in this position must have the necessary education and experience to lead a strong Extension education program in the assigned areas as well as work closely to lead an established volunteer system.
The person in this position will have educational responsibilities in all areas of commercial and consumer horticulture. These include turf and ornamental, home gardening, and fruits and vegetables. Additionally, the agent will have knowledge of Integrated Pest and Disease Management and assist in providing technical assistance to clientele. The agent will provide leadership, oversight, and coordination of a robust Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Program to include recruiting and training as well as the continued education of 75 existing volunteers. The successful candidate must be able to conduct educational programs that focus on the profitability and sustainability of North Carolina Green Industry professionals, utilizing best practices based on research to include the adoption of proven technology, business, and financial practices. Also, the person will serve as a non-voting member of the Farmers Market Advisory Council in order to provide technical assistance, direction and verification of local produce, fruits and vegetables.
Furthermore, Nash County Agriculture Center is home to the Nash County Arboretum developed and maintained by the Nash County Master Gardeners and the County Horticulture Extension Agent. The Nash County Arboretum is an outdoor museum which boasts a wide variety of garden areas, each with a unique theme. Garden steward’s work alongside the Horticulture Extension Agent to build upon, plan and coordinate on-going educational events that attract visitors to the gardens.
Additional responsibilities also include developing and coordinating video produced horticulture programs, youth horticulture programs, and developing innovative strategies for marketing, and evaluating educational programs by showing measurable impact.

The minimum GPA requirement will be waived for NCCE Program Associates with a Bachelor’s degree. – A Bachelor’s degree and the completion of at least one-half of coursework in a Master’s degree curriculum with a cumulative grade point average 3.0 or higher with at least one of the degrees in an agricultural or related field, or – Completion of a Master’s degree with at least one of the degrees in an agricultural or related field. Also required: a personal automobile; computer literacy; strong oral and written communication skills; the ability to plan, implement, market, and evaluate educational programs; willingness to work as a team member and support a total Extension program; and the ability to handle multiple demands and set priorities. Personal Attributes: Successful performance of the duties encompassed in the Extension Agent’s job requires that the individual possess habits of industry, a sense of responsibility, and a genuine appreciation for the worth of the individual. The employee must be adept in both oral and written communication. The Extension Agent is eligible to become a member of the non-tenure track/special faculty at North Carolina State University. The Extension Agent has primary responsibility for planning, executing, and evaluating that phase of Extension programs within assigned areas of program responsibility. The Extension Agent cooperates with colleagues in the North Carolina Cooperative Extension and leaders in performing assigned responsibilities. Other Work/Responsibilities
The person in this position must possess a high degree of horticulture subject matter competence. They must also have excellent public speaking skills, verbal and written communication skills, outstanding people skills, and effective teaching skills for in person and virtual educational programs. Additionally, the person in this position must have the necessary education and experience to lead a strong Extension education program in the assigned areas as well as work closely to lead an established volunteer system.
The person in this position will have educational responsibilities in all areas of commercial and consumer horticulture. These include turf and ornamental, home gardening, and fruits and vegetables. Additionally, the agent will have knowledge of Integrated Pest and Disease Management and assist in providing technical assistance to clientele. The agent will provide leadership, oversight, and coordination of a robust Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Program to include recruiting and training as well as the continued education of 75 existing volunteers. The successful candidate must be able to conduct educational programs that focus on the profitability and sustainability of North Carolina Green Industry professionals, utilizing best practices based on research to include the adoption of proven technology, business, and financial practices. Also, the person will serve as a non-voting member of the Farmers Market Advisory Council in order to provide technical assistance, direction and verification of local produce, fruits and vegetables.
Furthermore, Nash County Agriculture Center is home to the Nash County Arboretum developed and maintained by the Nash County Master Gardeners and the County Horticulture Extension Agent. The Nash County Arboretum is an outdoor museum which boasts a wide variety of garden areas, each with a unique theme. Garden steward’s work alongside the Horticulture Extension Agent to build upon, plan and coordinate on-going educational events that attract visitors to the gardens.
Additional responsibilities also include developing and coordinating video produced horticulture programs, youth horticulture programs, and developing innovative strategies for marketing, and evaluating educational programs by showing measurable impact.

Minimum Experience/Education
One of the following educational requirements: – A Bachelor’s degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 overall or a 3.0 (based on a 4.0 scale) in an agricultural or related field. The minimum GPA requirement will be waived for NCCE Program Associates with a Bachelor’s degree. – A Bachelor’s degree and the completion of at least one-half of coursework in a Master’s degree curriculum with a cumulative grade point average 3.0 or higher with at least one of the degrees in an agricultural or related field, or – Completion of a Master’s degree with at least one of the degrees in an agricultural or related field. Also required: a personal automobile; computer literacy; strong oral and written communication skills; the ability to plan, implement, market, and evaluate educational programs; willingness to work as a team member and support a total Extension program; and the ability to handle multiple demands and set priorities. Personal Attributes: Successful performance of the duties encompassed in the Extension Agent’s job requires that the individual possess habits of industry, a sense of responsibility, and a genuine appreciation for the worth of the individual. The employee must be adept in both oral and written communication. The Extension Agent is eligible to become a member of the non-tenure track/special faculty at North Carolina State University. The Extension Agent has primary responsibility for planning, executing, and evaluating that phase of Extension programs within assigned areas of program responsibility. The Extension Agent cooperates with colleagues in the North Carolina Cooperative Extension and leaders in performing assigned responsibilities. The performance of assigned responsibilities is governed by the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension.
Department Required Skills
A bachelor’s degree in a horticulture related field is required. The agent in this position must have technical competence in horticulture and be able to deliver educational programs. Ability to supervise and oversee a Master Volunteer Gardener system of volunteers. Travel within the district is required. Occasional travel outside the district is required.

A Master’s degree is preferred.
Work experience with horticulture to include turf and ornamentals, home gardening, fruits and vegetables, pest management etc.
