Job Purpose

This management position reports to the Director of Learning and is responsible for the design, project management, implementation, and evaluation of all Museum education programming and services for children and adults, both in-house, virtually and through outreach. The successful candidate will continue to develop, deliver and grow the school field trip programs involving science, design, social science and social justice. They will be responsible for the Museum's innovative STEAM Saturday family program, as well as a new 'Museum in a Box' school outreach program, which has been awarded grants from OAG and sponsorship from MGM Corporation. This position currently has one direct report who is focused on the Museum's educational and outreach programing for K-12.

Essential Job Functions

Education Programs and Initiatives:

Plans, coordinates, implements and evaluates all in-house and outreach K-12 programs, and trains other staff and volunteers as required.

Develop and deliver presentations inspired by our Museum collection that are aligned with national and state curriculum standards.

Deliver virtual / live / hybrid models of instruction to K-12 students and staff.

Monitors program effectiveness: solicits feedback through evaluation forms and other means, and seeks timely information on community and constituent needs, applying feedback for the constant improvement of programs.

Provides guidance in the development and design of museum education.

Works collaboratively with staff to ensure the best child and family experience in the permanent collection and featured exhibitions, producing diverse strategies to meet the diversity of needs.

Researches interpretive techniques; stays abreast of the latest research in the field of museum education.

Supervisory:

Monitors Education & Engagement project budgets and grant expenditure throughout fiscal year as assigned.

Assists with Departmental planning in alignment with the Museum's mission, vision, impact statement and strategic goals.

Supervise, develop and coach direct reports and work with interns and volunteers.

Work with PR and Marketing staff on promotion of Education Department programs and events.

Prepares regular reports for the Development Department and other departments or outside agencies as needed.

Resource Development:

Represents and promotes the Museum through active participation in professional organizations in the field and in local civic organizations.

Ability to foster and nurture new and existing strategic educational partnerships for the benefit of the Neon Museum.

Works in conjunction with the Development Department to develop grant proposals and monitors grant projects as appropriate and needed.

Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience

Master's degree in history, art education, museum education, museum studies, preferred; or related field Bachelor's degree and equivalent experience.

Experience working in a museum or attraction developing and planning informal learning programs.

Demonstrable experience in designing and delivering educational programs that involve all or some of the following subjects; science, design, social science and social justice, is required.

Experience with multiple virtual learning platforms is preferred.

Knowledge of current museum learning strategies, learning theory, interpretation and visitor studies.

Demonstrated ability to develop accessible learning tools for audiences of varied interests and needs.

Highly developed public speaking and presentation skills.

Interest in history, Las Vegas history, art, art history, architecture, preservation or neon signs a plus.

Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.

Understanding of contemporary issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion, and an ability to promote and uphold related standards.

Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to develop competence on additional software as required.

Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Work Context

Requires working typically 2 weekend days per month.

Requires occasional evening working.

Requires working with the public and children of all ages.

Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions and sitting for long periods of time.

Requires occasional working outside in extreme heat and cold.

Position Summary

The Neon Museum is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and innovative leader to join a vibrant and diverse team of professionals focused on preserving and presenting the unique history of Las Vegas. Based at the Neon Boneyard, this senior manager oversees the "front of house," which consists of the Docents who provide tours and service; the box office; Museum reception; and a small call center team. This position sets mission-aligned qualitative and quantitative goals for customer service, and leads the development and implementation of guest experience strategies. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of museums or the hospitality industry, a passion for exemplary customer service and sound business practices, and an ability to lead a team to achieve results and goals. General Responsibilities
• Manage the guest experience department, providing clear and consistent leadership, identifying and implementing training, coaching, professional development opportunities, and managing a supervisory team to offer frequent performance feedback on both a formal and informal basis.
• Seek and implement opportunities for improvements in esthetics, efficiency, processes and policies, toward a goal of creating a consistently welcoming and professional environment with a focus on the guest experience and customer service.

Requirements

Work/Education/Experience
