Job Summary
News 12 is looking for a Freelance Reporter/Multimedia Journalist to generate story ideas, gather information, and produce and present stories and other content for all platforms including social media. The candidate must have the ability to independently shoot, write and edit clear, relevant, and meaningful news stories. They must also have the ability to operate the assigned news gathering gear and ensure all content meets News 12 Network standards for journalistic integrity and production quality. The ideal candidate will develop sources, maintain contacts, and pursue leads that result in original stories.
Responsibilities
• Gather information, video content, interviews, and other elements necessary to produce thorough, high-quality news reports.
• Maintain a deep level of familiarity with hyper-local news events in order to generate original stories.
• Represent News 12 positively in the community in a courteous and professional manner.

• Demonstrated strong editorial judgment
• Proven experience editing content for a variety of digital platforms, in non-traditional. formats and resolutions
• A team player who can work flexible hours including evenings, early mornings and weekends
• Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and After Effects is a significant plus

Job Summary
News 12 is looking for a creative, driven, and experienced Freelance Production Assistant to assist in the broadcast of live daily news programming for News 12. The candidate will have experience working in live news with expertise in writing scripts and working within show rundowns. Knowledge of general news, business news, technology innovations, and cultural news is necessary.
The candidate must also be able to conduct guest research to help segment and line producers prep for interviews. You need to be able to work in a high-pressure environment and produce under tight deadlines. The successful candidate must be a self-starter and independent worker. At the same time, you must be adaptable and flexible, a team player who is able to mix easily and work effectively in our small and highly collaborative team. You are expected to be in the office during your shift each day. This is a temp role with the possibility of going permanent. This is a nine-month program, 40 hours per week.
Responsibilities
• Write and produce news hits and updates for shows on News 12 and our partners
• Assist segment and line producers with research for news segments and guest interviews (3-4 per day)
• Run promoter in the control room when needed
• Attend all editorial meetings with your show team or wider newsroom
• Learn and become proficient in Tagboard to coordinate all social media elements within the live show
• Coordinate props for live segments (could include picking up props, food, or anything needed for a segment) and ensure production has what they need for the studio
• When needed, assist the assignment desk with sourcing stories, booking package locations/interviews
• Build show graphics and elements in rundown software (ENPS)
• Generate exceptional story ideas, including breaking news
• Make certain all elements (video and audio) meet News 12 standards
Qualifications
• Experience in journalism and live production.
• Knowledge of news video/TV production.
• Excellent research and writing skills.
• Strong grammar, copy editing and communication skills.
• Familiarity with Twitter, Facebook and other social media.
