The Times and The Sunday Times are looking for an SEO and Audience development manager for the Travel department to focus on creating and implementing ideas to grow and engage our audience.

You will be responsible for running digital projects, sharing applicable insights and making recommendations on what Travel stories we cover and how. Every day you will be monitoring and identifying trending topics for editorial to find innovative ways to optimise our award-winning journalism. This includes monitoring evergreen and KWR for commercial SEO insight.

You will also play an active role in writing headlines and adding high-quality internal links to improve the reading experience. This includes suggesting keywords for URLs, optimising headlines for sells.

You will make digital-first publishing plans that span seven days and get the most out of our content for subscriber engagement as well as promotional plans to find new audiences. You will closely analyse data and feed... insights into commissioning editors as well as being a key ambassador for audience-led thinking.

As part of the Travel team you will attend team meetings that share insights, have the opportunity to teach and learn from your colleagues and benefit from a wealth of expertise in search engine optimisation, social media, newsletters and digital strategy.

Key skills
• The ability to retrieve and interpret data, then effectively communicate relevant insights
• Ownership and implementation of building the traffic forecast and reporting on these each week/month/quarter
• Strong SEO editorial knowledge and technical SEO experience
• Strong instinctive for social media and a strategic approach to channels
• Understanding of online communities and how to create / engage within them
• Experience working with Google Analytics and keyword research tools
• The ability to create regular keyword gap and competitor analysis
• Excellent knowledge of third-party platforms and using them tactically to reach new audiences
• Good understanding of digital consumer behaviour and the ability to apply that knowledge to a subset of subscribers to increase engagement
• The ability to approach a large project from above to identify audience needs and decide the most relevant growth and engagement tactics to employ
• Experience with long-term planning and an ability to combine multiple different inputs, such as SEO keyword research with audience data and editorial trends, to derive new insights and recommendations for desks
• A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues
• Represent TNL travel at press and PR events

Your team:

What we’re looking for from you:

We’re looking for someone who is hardworking, highly motivated, keen to make an impact and to develop a career in communications. The ideal candidate will have already spent 1-2 years in a corporate, internal or consumer communications setting, in an agency or in-house - as well as having a passion for media, current affairs and the business of news.
• Strong communications experience: 1-2 years within agency or in-house, ideally across a mix of corporate and internal comms.
• Excellent writing ability: experience in writing content to engage a variety of different audiences in a variety of different styles - from intranet stories to social media posts to press releases.
• Superb attention to detail in all aspects of your work, as well as the ability to identify potential problems and proactively resolve them.
