In our Augusta, Maine office, we work closely with state and municipal agencies to manage the state's web portal, www.Maine.gov, and to build online government services for citizens and businesses. We are recruiting for an Application Developer. This position will be part of our development team, reporting to the Director of Technology, and is primarily focused on development of new web applications, and migration, maintenance, and management of existing web applications. This person will be responsible for working on various eGovernment web applications, including eCommerce applications. They will work with project managers, systems admin, security analyst, and other developers. Best qualified candidates will have experience working in multiple programming languages (primarily Perl, Java, and JavaScript), with knowledge of open-source relational databases, such as MySQL. Candidates will be expected to be multi-tasking in a fast-paced team environment. Important qualities include the ability to work quickly, take initiative, prioritize, pay attention to detail, and to understand and work with existing/legacy application code. Why Work for Us? A good understanding and familiarity of working in either PHP, Perl and/or Java. Solid understanding of relational databases and SQL, for implementing database-driven, web-based applications. A working command line knowledge of Linux based operating systems such as CentOS and Amazon Linux. Strong organizational and prioritization skills. Excellent communication skills, including good written and verbal abilities. Desire to work in fast-paced entrepreneurial environment to ensure that applications meet or exceed specifications in a 3-tier, scalable, and secure environment. Self-motivated, creative, and strong sense of accountability. Commitment to usability, accessibility, security and privacy standards as applicable in digital government. Ability to work well with others. Key Responsibilities The developer will be technically well-rounded, including but not limited to writing code, understanding basic networking, understanding web application architecture and devops functions. The successful candidate will:
Provide technical expertise within an assigned business unit/area in the analysis, design, and development of business applications, Bring a well-rounded and highly knowledgeable technical background in development of web / mobile applications, services & solutions. Be a valued member of the project team that is responsible for delivering quality solutions and supporting those solutions through the SDLC change process and into production. Accountable for major development responsibilities of large/complex projects or across multiple, nearly simultaneous smaller projects. Provide technical consulting support on projects or system issues. Evaluate application software packages and make recommendations to management. Participate in business and IT project estimation activities, from the position of being a subject matter expert. Desired Applications and Skills:
