Position Summary

The Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences (PES) at New Mexico State University (NMSU) invites applications for a Soil Microbiology and Soil Health Assistant Professor position (12 month, tenure track, 60% research; 40% teaching). The successful candidate will develop research related to microbial ecology, soil fertility and/or soil health, and contribute to undergraduate teaching in soil microbiology, soil science and soil fertility/health, and graduate courses in their area of expertise. The successful candidate must be positioned to develop an externally funded research program integrating diverse undergraduate and graduate students and leveraging NMSU's position as a leading Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) serving the majority-minority population of New Mexico. They must demonstrate potential as an effective and inclusive teacher and mentor, and ability to communicate research findings through publications in top peer-reviewed journals.

The Soil Microbiology and Soil Health faculty member will join a faculty of plant, soil and environmental scientists in a multidisciplinary team that teaches and conducts research in support of BS, MS, and PhD degrees. Research interests should be clearly focused on the broad field of soil microbiology and soil health, ideally linking to other teaching and research interests in the Department, including horticulture, agronomy, crop production, crop and rangeland resilience to drought and disturbance, contaminant remediation, land and water resource management and plant breeding and genetics. The successful candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with researchers within and beyond the Department and College to achieve their teaching and research goals. Participating in professional and campus wide service is expected.

Based in Las Cruces, New Mexico, the Statewide Value-Added Extension Agent will work with academic faculty, Extension specialists, Extension agents, and faculty in New Mexico State University's Center of Excellence in Sustainable Food and Agricultural Systems. Agricultural economists in the Center of Excellence address important issues to food and fiber supply chain stakeholders, focusing on post-harvest value-added production. The team, including Center personnel as well as Extension personnel, works to support the food and fiber supply chain participants in
• Understanding market factors that influence their profitability and sustainability,
• Developing strategies and tools that facilitate good business management,
• Analyzing and capitalizing on market opportunities, and
• Conducting business feasibility assessments.
The incumbent, with the team, will provide critical information that will support supply chain participants in analyzing and capitalizing on value-added market opportunities. The incumbent, with the team, will conduct applied research disseminated in Extension and other scholarly outlets. Additionally, research results will be presented to stakeholders through various outlets, including public presentations, industry association presentations, and one-on-one stakeholder meetings. The incumbent is expected to promote CES programs within the state to meet the LEADS 2025 Equity, Inclusion and Diversity goals prioritizing the program expansion to non-traditional demographics.

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at New Mexico State University (NMSU) is searching for outstanding applicants to fill two tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor rank by Fall 2023. Preference will be placed on applicants with research expertise in supersonic and/or hypersonic experimental aerothermodynamics, aerothermal-related sensor development, material development and testing for extreme environments, and hot structures. The candidates need to show potential to aggressively leverage opportunities at the state and federal levels, to develop an impactful and sustainable research program, and to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses. New Mexico State University (NMSU) is launching a new Nurse Anesthesiology specialty track in its CCNE-accredited Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree program to address the critical need for anesthesia providers in New Mexico. This program will have an emphasis on rural health and health disparities. An accreditation site visit with the Council on Accreditation for Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA) is scheduled for April 2023. The first cohort of students is anticipated to start in August 2023.

The program will be housed in the School of Nursing within the College of Health, Education and Social Transformation. The assistant director of the Nurse Anesthesiology program will play a supportive role in seeking accreditation with the Council on Accreditation for Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA) and providing strategic, academic, and operational leadership for the program.

New Mexico State University currently offers a BSN program at the Las Cruces, Alamogordo and Grants campuses, an online MSN program in Nursing Leadership and Administration, the DNP program with FNP, PMHNP and population health leadership specialty tracks, and a post graduate APRN certificate. Candidates would be joining a team of passionate nursing faculty and staff who are dedicated to student success and graduating BSN-prepared and advance practice nurses to serve the state of New Mexico and surrounding border region.

Duties

Administrative Responsibilities:
• Supports the director in the administrative and operational functions of the nurse anesthesiology program, including data collection and record keeping.
• Assists in the process of program accreditation for the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA) including evaluating and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards.
• Assists with DNP CCNE program accreditation visits and reports.
• Participates in determining faculty teaching assignments and recruits part time clinical faculty and site clinical coordinators.
• Supports the director in curriculum development, execution, evaluation, and revision for continues improvement to assure rigor and quality of learning experiences.
• Assists in the development, evaluation, and revision of student admission, progression, retention, and graduation policies, assuring alignment with institutional policies.
• Assists the director with faculty professional development, including ensuring that faculty and staff are informed of accreditation standards, educational requirements, and institutional policies.
• Advises and counsels students as necessary.
• Responsible for the development and maintenance of clinical sites in accordance with COA standards.
• Supervises and works with the clinical site coordinators and clinical faculty on the clinical instruction of the nurse anesthesiology students to assure compliance with clinical requirements set by the COA. This may include conducting and/or coordinating clinical instructor workshops.
• Acts as the liaison between the nurse anesthesiology program and clinical agencies.
• Conducts clinical site visits as required by the COA.
• Communicates regularly to the director on issues related to the nurse anesthesiology program.
• Represents the school and university to prospective students, professional organizations, potential future employers for students, and any other relevant constituencies.
Faculty Responsibilities:
• Plans, designs, and provides didactic, clinical and/or laboratory instruction in the nurse anesthesiology track in a manner that reflect an understanding of the program's objectives and curriculum.
• Evaluates student achievement of curricular and course objectives and learning outcomes related to nursing knowledge and practice.
• Contributes to program, department, and college activities and initiatives including participating in program and department faculty meetings and serving on committees and participating in university functions.
• Participates in School of Nursing events (i.e., commencement, induction ceremonies, open houses, career days, recruitment activities, fundraising events, etc)
• Serves on departmental, college and university committees
• Participation in scholarship/research, professional practice, outreach and service as assigned

Required Qualifications
• Graduate of an accredited nurse anesthesia program associated with a regionally accredited institution of higher education
• Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree or PhD in nursing or related field from an institution of higher education that was accredited by an agency officially recognized by the US Secretary of Education to accredit institutions at the time the degree was conferred
• Certification by the National Board of Certification and Recertification eligible for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA)
• Unencumbered license as a registered nurse and/or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and eligible for registered nurse and advanced practice nurse prescriber licensure in the state of New Mexico
• At least five years of clinical experience as a practicing CRNA
• At least one year experience in nurse anesthesia education at an accredited program
• Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and diversity
• Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, collaborative, team building, and communication skills (written and oral)
Preferred Qualifications (optional)
• Administrative experience in nurse anesthesia education
• Distance/online teaching experience
• Simulation teaching experience
• Member in good standing by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA)
• Service at the state or national level
• Evidence of scholarship in nurse anesthesia practice and/or education
