The Politics and Government Editor is responsible for supervising and shaping daily and longer-range local news coverage with a broad mandate encompassing the political world and government operations at the city, state and federal levels. This will be first and foremost an accountability job, focusing on the political leaders and public agencies that drive decisions crucial to the lives of New Yorkers. Strong storytelling skills are critical as we explore how issues ranging from spending to safety are playing out at ground level.
The position entails supervising the online publishing and updating of breaking, developing and competitive stories while coordinating with other departments to drive engagement and readership. The ability and willingness to design and champion creative approaches to storytelling geared to dovetail with the changing habits of an increasingly mobile audience is critical to success in this position. The Politics and Government Editor is expected to lead content strategies that both serve existing readers and cultivate new audiences.

Responsibilities:
Main responsibilities include:
Identifying stories likely to drive audience and working with reporters to execute a steady flow of high-impact content throughout the day.
Posting stories, galleries, and other content on all platforms.
Assist in audience development strategy, including social media, search and content performance.
Firm grasp of SEO to inform effective headline-writing experience for all platforms
Experience working on a news site.
Social media savvy with demonstrated experience, especially with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and others.
Experience and interest with additional audience development strategies.
Comfortable with analytics tools and social media metrics.
Reporting and/or editing experience, and ability to display solid news judgment.
Knowledge of web tools, CMS systems and technical platforms. The ability to troubleshoot problems is a plus.
Knowledge of a broad base of news topics. Tabloid experience is a plus.

Reporting to the National Breaking News and Entertainment Editor, this is a key position at the heart of the Daily News’ operation – a demanding and rewarding job requiring top notch news judgment, strong people and editing skills and the ability to communicate quickly and effectively. The ideal candidate will also be able to develop and write their own stories as well.
The position entails managing the online publishing and updating of a steady flow of breaking, developing and competitive stories in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will also have the ability and willingness to design and champion creative approaches to storytelling geared to dovetail with the changing habits of an increasingly mobile audience.
The Deputy Editor/National Breaking News and Entertainment must possess initiative, a competitive spirit, ability to think strategically, superior news judgment, business acumen, creativity, communication abilities, attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy, the ability to multitask and perform well under constant deadlines, a strong command of the English language, and editing skills that conform to accepted journalistic techniques, ethical standards and Daily News style.
Duties for the Content Editor job can vary, but fluency is critical in editing and preparing articles, photos, videos and designs for publication on all NYDN digital platforms; performing other production-related functions that require sharp news judgment; managing content from outside sources such as wire services; aggregating content or writing short stories, when necessary; and publishing on other platforms such as social media. They should have a solid understanding of the world of digital trends, social media and audience metrics.
Hours are variable with the likelihood of weekend work as well.
