Minimum Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in sociology, criminology or criminal justice is preferred. ABD candidates will be considered but will be appointed at the rank of Visiting Instructor for the year unless we are provided evidence of Ph.D. completion prior to August 1.

Qualifications:
• Graduate Assistants must be fully admitted and enrolled for at least 8 credits for the academic year in a graduate program. Graduate course work and/or research must contribute directly to the satisfaction of Oakland's degree requirements. Graduate assistants must have and maintain good academic standing (3.0 grade point average).
• Appointment is given to candidates with completed BA/BS and acceptance into a degree-granting graduate program. Must be enrolled in a degree-granting program.
• Due to the formal and informal demands of the position, involvements in other activities which require a sizable time commitment (volunteer work, other employment, class loads above 8 or 12 credits, etc.) are permitted only with written advance authorization from the Assistant Director for Residence Life. Those who are required by their academic program to participate in field experience/internships which require a significant time commitment will need prior approval from the Assistant Director for Residence Life. Candidates must be in good disciplinary standing.

Tuition:

Tuition (eight credits per semester or a total of 8 credits) will be compensated. Any additional credits and class fees, including books, will be the responsibility of the student.

Compensation:

The student will receive a paycheck (via direct deposit if desired) on the last business day of each month for the duration of the assistantship.The total amount will be $9,000 for the academic year. Additionally, room and board will be provided as a result of serving in an on-call capacity for emergency response.
