Salary and Benefits

Salary for newly appointed Border Patrol Agents varies from $48,809–$87,838 (GL 5 - 7) and from $61,965–$117,896 (GL 9 – GS 11) depending upon grade-level, duty location, and work schedule, including overtime. A fully trained Border Patrol Agent may be eligible for up to an additional 25% of base pay per the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with a grade level progression of GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11, and GS-12. You will be eligible for a promotion to the next higher grade level (without re-applying) once you successfully complete 52 weeks in each grade level.

All agents receive the full package of federal employment benefits that include health and insurance plans, a generous annual and sick leave program, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement plan akin to a traditional 401(k) offering.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Border Patrol Agent (BPA) you will be part of our 60,000+ workforce that strives to protect the American people by safeguarding our borders, deterring illicit activity, and enhancing the nation’s economic prosperity. Being a Border Patrol Agent makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) profession.

Typical activities include:
• Detecting, preventing, and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers of noncitizens at or near the land borders by maintaining surveillance from covert positions.
• Responding to electronic sensor alarms; interpreting and following tracks, marks, and other physical evidence; using infrared scopes during night operations.
• Responding to aircraft sighting and other anti-smuggling activities and performing farm and ranch checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks.
• Patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways and using a variety of Government assets for the accomplishment of the USBP Mission. These assets may include, but are not limited to motor vehicles, horses, watercraft, off-road vehicles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and motorcycles.
• Occasional travel may be required based on operational needs.

Duty Locations–NATIONWIDE OPENINGS–Apply Today

• Performing physical searches of detained individuals, their vehicles, and their immediate surroundings for weapons, contraband, currency, and other evidence.
• Apprehending or physically restraining violators of state, federal, or immigration laws.
• Preparing investigative reports, serving court orders (e.g., warrants, subpoenas, etc.) and gathering evidence for criminal cases prosecuted through the court system.

You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
• Developing and utilizing intelligence information to track illegal operations and/or contraband.
• Leading investigations of fraud, contraband, and/or illegal operations to determine sources and patterns.
• Utilizing various forms of complex technology that includes surveillance, detection, situation awareness systems, and communications equipment to aid in the apprehension of violators of state, federal or immigration laws.
• Communicating assignments and training peers on the application of the appropriate law enforcement problem solving methods, investigative techniques, and other law enforcement procedures.
• Working with law enforcement officials or government agencies to identify and/or apprehend violators of state, federal, or immigration laws.

There are no education substitutions for the GL 9 and GS 11 positions.

Other Requirements

Citizenship: You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this position.

Residency: You must have had primary U.S. residency (includes protectorates as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years.

Age Restriction: In accordance with Public Law 100-238, this position is covered under law enforcement retirement provisions. Candidates must be referred for selection to the Border Patrol Agent position before reaching their 40th birthday in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Directive 251-03. The age restriction may not apply if you are currently serving or have previously served in a federal civilian law enforcement (non-military) position covered by Title 5 U.S.C. 8336(c) or Title 5 U.S.C. 8412(d).

Veterans’ Preference: You may also be eligible for an excepted service Veterans Recruitment Appointment (VRA). The age restriction does not apply if you are Veterans' Preference eligible.

Formal Training: After you are hired, you will be detailed to the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, for approximately six (6) months of intensive instruction in immigration and nationality laws, law enforcement and USBP-specific operations, drivers training, physical techniques, firearms, and other courses. Border Patrol work requires the ability to speak and read Spanish, as well as English. Agents will be provided training to become proficient with the Spanish language at the academy.

OCEAN CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR: 2025 Special Law Enforcement Officer Class I & II

SLEO 1

These officers have the limited authority and arrest powers when compared to a full-time police officer. The training is conducted at the Cape May County Police Academy and the Special Officer I is certified by the New Jersey Police Training Commission.

This hiring process is for the Basic Course for SLEO I Officers. The training program is tentatively scheduled to begin in early 2025. The program includes training in baton, handcuffing, oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray, defensive tactics, disorderly persons offenses, traffic control and traffic law, first aid, use of force, various patrol concepts, and ethics.
SLEO 2

These officers have the same authority and arrest powers as a full-time police officer while they are employed and on-duty. In addition to the above responsibilities, they have the responsibility of carrying a firearm.

The training is intense and is conducted at the Cape May County Police Academy. This hiring process is for the 66th Basic Course for SLEO II Officers, which is tentatively scheduled mid December through the end of April. Training is held 4 days a week. Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday 3pm-10pm and Saturday from 7am to 5pm.

The course of study includes, history of law enforcement, the NJ court system, community responsibility, criminal law, arrest search and seizure, use of force, patrol vehicle operations, motor vehicle law, first responder emergency rescue, firearms, baton, chemical agents, self-defense, patrol tactics, criminal law, communications, report writing, court room testimony, military drill, and physical fitness and additional law enforcement training. Graduating Officers can apply for college credits at Atlantic Cape Community College and receive full New Jersey State Special Law Enforcement Certification at graduation.
SALARY

$18/hour Class I Officer - $20/hour Class II Officer
POLICE DEPARTMENT AND CITY OF OCEAN CITY INFORMATION

Ocean City is a progressive department which currently employees 68 sworn police officers. It relies on Special Law Enforcement Officers to supplement our force during our busy season. Ocean City is an island resort that has a high influx of seasonal residents and tourists during the summer months. Our population grows from approximately 12,000 to over 150,000 during the summer months. We respond to approximately 45,000 service calls per year.

SLEO's are utilized in a variety of capacities. Assignments are made based on departmental demands. Assignments include Patrol Squads, the Boardwalk Power Squad, Patrol Squad Power Squad, Community Oriented Policing Unit, Detective Bureau, and the Marine Unit.

Ocean City is a customer service-oriented town with a reputation as "America's Greatest Family Resort." The Police Department is an accredited agency through the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must comply with the following basic qualification standards:

United States Citizen that possesses a valid driver's license

Must reside in New Jersey at time of employment.

Read and write the English language

Age 18 or older

Possess a High School Diploma or Equivalent

Job Overview

As a Retail Merchandiser Floater, you'll have the opportunity to work independently to showcase your organization and time management skills, your ability to establish retailer relationships, while being the face of Hallmark. You will collaborate with local store teams to optimize product placement and maintain inventory levels as well as support fellow team members with seasonal resets and installations, when needed. On occasion Hallmark may ask you to service another vendor's product in a store that you are assigned to. If that is the case, you will be provided detailed instructions and additional budgeted time.

SALARY AND SHIFT DETAILS
• Your starting pay will be between $15.13 - $16.13 depending on your shift and location.
• This is a Part-Time position with a variable schedule during the work week.
• Weekly hours for this position is between 5 – 10 hours per week
• Availability the week before and after major holidays, which may include weekends is required.

Your Role And Responsibilities Will Include

You'll perform service work in the Hallmark department of various retail stores such as grocery stores, drug stores, department stores, and mass retailers. The retail merchandiser floater position consists of three major components:
• Day-to-day engagement: You are responsible for the entire Hallmark product display at your assigned stores. Utilizing a mobile device provided by Hallmark, you'll restock, organize, and monitor the inventory of Hallmark products within and outside the Hallmark department. While using your mobile device you will also be in communication with your supervisor, reporting time, providing feedback, and answering surveys for required merchandising activities. Professional and courteous interaction with store employees, management, and customers is also vital for success in this role.
• Holiday support: Hallmark's operations revolve around seasonal demand. Leading up to and following holidays such as Valentine's Day, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, you can expect additional days and extended hours during the work week. On occasions like Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, and Father's Day, you may be required to work on the actual holiday itself, which may include the weekend.
• Department Resets: At times, you may be part of a team responsible for installations and various tasks like building and installing Hallmark fixtures, relocating card departments and products, as well as resetting card sections. Typically, you will be notified two weeks in advance for remodel assignments. This could include evenings or weekend.
• One Team Vision: As a field organization although you are assigned to your specific responsibilities there may be additional work and installation efforts that you will be asked and required to support.

Physical Requirements

This is a physically demanding job that requires a high level of energy and a sense of urgency. You will be working on the selling floor as well as in back stockrooms. You must be able to consistently push, pull, lift, and carry cartons, merchandise, and display fixtures up to 30 pounds throughout the workday and up to 50 pounds on occasion. You will also be required to stoop, squat, walk, and stand throughout your workday, and you may be required to climb stairs and step ladders.

Basic Qualifications
• You're at least 18 years of age.
• You're able to read, write and understand English.
• You have the ability to grasp, pull, lift, and carry products up to 30 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally.
• Able to operate hand-held technology provided to open and read documents and interpret information.
• You have access to a Wi-Fi network and the internet.
• You have reliable transportation to report to assigned locations.
