What the EPA project is about

The Office of Science Advisor, Policy and Engagement (OSAPE) is responsible for the Agency’s official Scientific Integrity policy and human subject research review, as well as overseeing and managing: intra-agency science coordination, the Action Development Process leadership, the Regional Science Program, Tribal Science, External Advisory Boards, and EPA extramural research support and partnerships (including research grants and partnerships, challenges, and prizes).

As a team member, you will help to develop and implement cross-agency strategies that support the functions listed above. The team member will assist with the analytical and administrative duties required to support and maintain robust programs. Specific duties and/or responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Assisting the team in developing oral presentations using graphics and other interactive formats;
• Assisting the team and OSA management with the development of products, the conduct of meetings, storing and properly manage the records, and timely search and retrieval of information;
• Conducting analysis of data and information collected for the various functions, preparing survey instruments under the direction of the Team leader, and preparing web related and other communication materials;
• Performing research on related topics that support the various OSA functions and responsibilities; and
• Working in a team environment that supports cross learning and maximizes the student opportunity to learn about the functions of OSA, as well as other components of EPA.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Work Experience, and Education
• Demonstrated education and/or experience in both science and policy;
• Demonstrated leadership and critical thinking skills and experience working in teams;
• Experience communicating and coordinating efforts between different groups;
• Demonstrated skill in developing oral presentations using graphics and presentation software;
• Experience conducting analysis of data and information to address specific applications; and
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).

Location: This job will be located EPA’s facility in Washington, D.C.

Salary: Selected applicant will become a temporary employee of ORAU and will receive an hourly wage of $33.14 for hours worked.

Hours: Full-time.

Travel: No travel is expected.

Expected start date: The position is full time and expected to begin August 2023. The selected applicant will become a temporary employee of ORAU working as a contractor to EPA. The contract renews each May through 2025.

CDC’s National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH) is seeking candidates for a full-time research fellowship administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) (visit http://orise.orau.gov/cdc/ for further information) at the PhD level with a degree in chemistry or related fields (degree conferred in last 5 years) and experience in chemical and analytical laboratory work. Fellowship training will occur in the Division of Laboratory Science (DLS), Tobacco and Volatiles Branch (TVB).
Placement will be in TVB’s Volatile Organic Compounds Laboratory, where human exposure to environmental toxicants is quantified using advanced analytical methods in state-of-the-art laboratory facilities (http://www.cdc.gov/nceh/dls/). The fellow will be trained in a supportive team of scientists who participate in established regional and national exposure assessment studies. The qualifications include:
•A PhD in Chemistry or related chemical sciences received within the past five year is required
•A grade point average of 3.5 or higher is desired, but not required
•Experience or strong interest in analytical laboratory work

Training will include:
•Development, implementation and troubleshooting of biological specimen collection andhandling for accurate analyses of VOC biomarkers of exposure by LC/MS/MS
•Identification of compound identification and structural elucidation of VOC metabolites incomplex matrices
•Data interpretation using SAS-JMP statistical approaches and LIMS reporting
•Maintenance of clinical laboratory improvement amendments (CLIA) quality control andassurance compliance
•Use of data analytics for effective presentation

This fellowship is administered by ORISE (visit http://orise.orau.gov/cdc for further information and eligibility). Fellows are appointed for an initial one-year period, which may be renewed for up to five years. The stipend depends on educational level and experience and follows those described in federal
salary tables (GS tables). The starting stipend for a PhD level graduate is equivalent to GS-11, step 1 with no industry experience and GS-12, step 1 with 2 years industry experience. The degree must have been obtained within the last five years. In addition, fellows are offered a standard Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurance policy (with optional dental and vision coverage) with a maximum stipend toward individual coverage of $559 per month ($603 with dental and vision coverage). Relocation expenses are not covered. Participants do not become employees of CDC or the program administrator, and there are no fringe benefits paid
