The role is highly strategic and collaborative; one that requires a combination of attention to detail, a creative approach to brand experiences, proactive communication, and nimble project management across teams and competing events.
The ideal candidate is creative and a self-starter, who thrives in fast-paced environments and can bring new ideas to life in a big way. We are looking for a highly resourceful individual who is self-motivated, agile, and entrepreneurial, who can support a dynamic calendar of events, big and small, at an exciting moment for our organization.
What You'll Do:
• Create innovative and multi-dimensional brand experiences for POLITICO designed to engage POLITICO's target influencer audiences, VIPs, and strategic clients.

• Oversee all aspects of event planning, from start to finish, for a portfolio or small and large-scale brand events, inclusive of leading and supervising relationships with external production vendors and consultants, and internal stakeholders and teams, including: POLITICO's annual White House Correspondents Dinner presence, POLITICO's 2024 political conventions presence, Playbook and other franchise events, presence at key global conferences such as the Milken Institute Global Conference & WEF at Davos, and other experiential marketing events and brand engagements as the portfolio grows.
• Establish excellent working relationships with key cross-department stakeholders, peers, and their teams, including VIP Engagement, POLITICO Live, Marketing and Communications, Editorial, external consultants, and POLITICO's executive team, among others.
• Develop and implement project timelines to effectively meet tactical and strategic objectives across departments to ensure successful delivery, including pre-event consultation and planning, venue selection, event design, vendor and contract management, agenda development and show flow, printing and shipping, budget management, event staffing, on-site event management, event follow-up and close-out, and others as required
• Manage budget and financial reconciliation and indentify opportunities for efficiencies and cost savings across all events
• Own and track priorities and/or strategic projects as assigned by Vice President of Marketing and Communications and the Executive Director of Brand Experiences
• Travel to produce events and functions outside of Washington as required
• Support and work closely with the head of POLITICO Live on various production needs as determined; resource against a wholistic calendar of events to ensure coverage of day-to-day event tactics, systems, materials, and staff is seamless
What You'll Need:
• 6+ years of experience in high scale event planning and production, ideally for a news or political organization; experience managing teams
• Extensive experience supporting C-Level executives and key stakeholders on highly visible projects and events
• Strong knowledge of the Washington, D.C. landscape, including vendors, venues, and VIP audiences, and in other key political markets as required.
• A creative approach to connecting with key VIPs and audiences and elevating the POLITICO brand through creative production and engaging experiential marketing.

We’re looking for a newsroom leader with vision, superior editing ability and entrepreneurial drive to oversee a major expansion of POLITICO in California. No state has more influence on the American body politic and on national – and international – policymaking than California. It boasts the world’s fourth largest economy and is a stage for gripping political and legislative dramas. That’s why... POLITICO brought its distinctive brand of political journalism to California in 2015 with the launch of California Playbook, and then built a formidable team covering policy in Sacramento for professional subscribers in 2018. Now, as political power increasingly shifts from Washington to state capitals, POLITICO is deepening its investment in California. We have to own the political and policy story here like only POLITICO can. We have to break through with distinctive and high impact journalism – and need to build our team to do just that. Working closely with POLITICO’s senior editors and business leaders, the California expansion editor will map out – and then execute – a plan to expand our indispensable California policy and legislative coverage for professional policy subscribers, deepen our reporting on the personalities and power players driving politics at the state capitol in Sacramento and launch a new team covering influence and politics in Los Angeles. The editor will leader build and oversee a large staff in California and guide our journalism on California – be it on the politics in Sacramento, the climate crisis or how developments in California resonate beyond its borders. The ideal candidate is a builder of teams with a passion for journalism and an interest in the media business, and a keen collaborator with colleagues in different places and departments.
The base salary range for this role is $175,000-$225,000 per year. The final salary offered, which may be higher than the current anticipated salary range, to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, type and years of experience within the industry, education, etc.
In addition to base salary, we offer on-going career development coaching, a flexible vacation plan, fully paid six-month parental leave, 401k match, medical, dental, and vision insurance, phone and commuting reimbursements, and more.
We are driven by our values. We are relentless contributors, disruptors of the status quo, collaborators, talent cultivators and DEI stewards. Our culture is defined by grit, total integrity and a prioritization on innovation.

POLITICO's Defense team digs into consequential issues across a wide range of areas at the intersection of weapons, warfare, politics and policy. We're looking for a reporter with a deep interest in how the Defense Department... enacts policies that affect budgets, big-ticket weapons acquisitions and America's commitments abroad.
The successful candidate will have a track record of delivering scoops and enterprise reporting in a fast-paced daily newsroom. Helming Morning Defense means setting the tone and writing authoritatively on a variety of issues - and editing the work of others who contribute - for a highly influential audience. This position also includes ample opportunity to write news and enterprise stories that appear across all of POLITICO's platforms - from newsy dispatches for subscribers to enterprise stories for POLITICO's home page to other newsletters - both in the U.S. and in Europe.
What You'll Need:
- At least two years of experience working as a reporter in a daily newsroom.
- Excellent news judgment and a deep understanding of how the Defense Department and Congress operate.
- The desire to work closely and collaboratively with colleagues throughout the company.
- A track record of delivering scoops and enterprise on a beat. (Please submit at least 4-6 clips in your application along with your resume and cover letter.)
