The University of Portsmouth is an ambitious institution with a track record of success. One of only four universities in the south east of England to achieve a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework and ranked in the top 150 in the Times Higher Young University World Rankings.
The School is the largest criminology department in the UK with an established presence in undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral education, complemented by a successful applied criminology research profile. The University has been awarded Gold within the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). The University is aiming to be the top modern University and the Institute will make a significant contribution towards achieving this aim.
As part of a national consortium of Higher Education providers, we have secured the tender to provide a Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship and Degree Holder Entry Programme for newly recruited Police Constables in Sussex Police, Hampshire Constabulary and Surrey Police. These innovative courses run via e-learning with associated face-to-face masterclasses. We are now in a position to recruit additional academic staff in the role of Lecturer in Policing to work with us and support the delivery of these important programmes. The post will be based at the University of Portsmouth, with flexible options around hybrid working with some travel to off-campus teaching locations required.
A specific knowledge of one or more of the following subject areas is essential: Initial police education; the Police Education Qualifications Framework; police policy, practice and procedures; research methods and dissertation/project support.
This role requires engagement with police officers and staff. As such we will require the successful candidate to undertake the Non-Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV) process.
If you wish to discuss this further, in the first instance, please contact Dr Julian Parker-McLeod on julian.parker-mcleod@port.ac.uk or on Tel. 023 9284 3795.
