Purpose of the role
The MSA department is a highly multi-disciplinary group started in 2019 to tackle difficult mail delivery, spam and abuse problems. We built sophisticated systems from scratch that combine human intelligence and machine learning to make tens of millions of realtime or asynchronous decisions each day. As of 2022, our three areas of focus are 1) mail delivery and spam, 2) abuse and account security, and 3) site reliability of Proton. Over the past 3 years, our custom systems have reduced spam filter misclassifications by over 50%, blocked millions of abusive bulk signups, protected hundreds of thousands of users from account compromise by attackers, and mitigated hundreds of DDoS attacks. In order to move fast with limited resources, we are organized into autonomous teams responsible for the whole system, with expertise across infrastructure, data storage, backend, frontend, machine learning, security and operational excellence. In 3 years, we grew from 2 engineers to over 30 engineers and analysts, spread across 3 continents for 24/7 coverage. We are looking for humble, mission-driven, systems-thinking people who want to make a big impact in a startup environment.
What You Will Do
Across all MSA systems, analysts monitor how things are working in production and take appropriate actions when needed. Analysts fight spam and abuse by quickly understanding the data and context and creating rules to act on past or future events. Analysts give insights and feedback to software and machine learning engineers to help design and improve our systems. As an engineering-driven organization, MSA currently doesn't have product or project managers, so you will have the opportunity to play those roles and drive the planning, development, and QA process. Our more technical analysts develop Python scripts for more sophisticated actions or data analysis.

Purpose of the role
ProtonVPN is composed of a distributed global infrastructure of VPN servers, and a set of clients for each major platform. You would be joining the Linux ProtonVPN Client Team, to take part in the development of the ProtonVPN Linux Desktop client for all the major Linux distributions. As a Software Engineer, with your technical expertise, your main responsibility will be to contribute to the development of new features, setting up the CI/CD or even building new testing pipelines. You will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions.
Within the Linux Team, you will collaborate with fellow Linux developers, QA engineers, Product Manager and Customer Support to develop the Linux client.
What you will do
• Contribute to building a new Linux app
• Architect and develop solutions to ambiguous problems with significant impact.
• Ensuring that coding standards are in place and participate in E2E development, from design to production
• Facilitate alignment and clarity across the team on goals, outcomes, and timelines.
• Analyze and optimize infrastructure application code for quality, efficiency, and performance.
• 5+ years of experience in software development with a strong command of OOP .
• Broad Python Experience
• Experience in Linux desktop client development (in particular through the GTK+ framework, or alternatively QT )
• Applied best practices in code quality paradigms
• Experience with DevOps principles and practices (CI/CD, containers)
• Mastering source control flow through Git or other source control (code reviews, optimizing release processes...)
• Open-source Linux development, distribution, packaging and maintenance for multiple distros (e.g. on Debian or Fedora -based platforms)
• Overall, handling the entire SDLC, end to end
• Excellent communication and a strong sense of ownership.
Bonus points for
• Experience working with RESTful web APIs.
• Experience in C, Go or Rust

Purpose of the role
ProtonVPN is composed of a distributed global infrastructure of VPN servers, and a set of clients for each major platform. You would be joining the Linux ProtonVPN Client Team, to take part in the development of the ProtonVPN Linux Desktop client for all the major Linux distributions. As a Software Engineer, with your technical expertise, your main responsibility will be to contribute to the development of new features, setting up the CI/CD or even building new testing pipelines. You will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions.
Within the Linux Team, you will collaborate with fellow Linux developers, QA engineers, Product Manager and Customer Support to develop the Linux client.
What you will do
• Contribute to building a new Linux app
• Architect and develop solutions to ambiguous problems with significant impact.
• Ensuring that coding standards are in place and participate in E2E development, from design to production
• Facilitate alignment and clarity across the team on goals, outcomes, and timelines.
• Analyze and optimize infrastructure application code for quality, efficiency, and performance.
• 5+ years of experience in software development with a strong command of OOP .
• Broad Python Experience
• Experience in Linux desktop client development (in particular through the GTK+ framework, or alternatively QT )
• Applied best practices in code quality paradigms
• Experience with DevOps principles and practices (CI/CD, containers)
• Mastering source control flow through Git or other source control (code reviews, optimizing release processes...)
• Open-source Linux development, distribution, packaging and maintenance for multiple distros (e.g. on Debian or Fedora -based platforms)
• Overall, handling the entire SDLC, end to end
• Excellent communication and a strong sense of ownership.
Bonus points for
• Experience working with RESTful web APIs.
• Experience in C, Go or Rust
• Practical experience with major VPN protocols ( OpenVPN , IKEv2 , WireGuard )
• Practical experience with modern Linux stacks such as NetworkManager and systemd
• Networking experience on Linux platforms.
• Well-versed in security and with a good understanding of security best practices for Linux development
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study and/or scientific background.
