Job Summary: New Leaf Literary & Media is seeking a Subrights Assistant to join our team. This role supports the Subrights Department including by handling the administrative day-to-day tasks necessary to sustain and grow the business for our clients. In addition, this role will work closely with New Leaf's agents, Film & TV Department, licensees, co-agents, and scouts. You will be assisting a team with multiple deals at varying stages of the process simultaneously, and you will interact with dozens of people in-agency and internationally on a daily basis.

Essential Functions
The Subrights Assistant provides support to the Subsidiary Rights Director. Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to) general administrative duties, including answering e-mails, handling correspondence, scheduling, maintaining tracking systems, etc.
Additionally, the Subrights Assistant will be expected to:

-Track and prepare payment collection documents

-Tracking foreign payments, working closely with internal and external accounting teams

-Complete quarterly payments report

-Become familiar with international tax procedure and liaison with clients regarding tax matters

-Review and negotiate contracts with licensees in conjunction with Rights Director

-Manage contract and associated documents

-Manage mailings to New Leaf clients, co-agents, and foreign publishers

-Read and evaluate submission materials

-Compose submission letters and submission lists

-Liaise with lit team on materials and timelines on their projects

-Meet with scouts and foreign publishers

-Prepare monthly newsletter and regular publicity updates

-Prepare Expense Reports

-Schedule for and coordinate logistics for international book fairs

-Prepare foreign rights guides

-Coordinate interviews and publicity tours for New Leaf clients with their foreign publishers

-Assist with rights research for new business opportunities as needed

-Execute other duties in support of the Subrights department as necessary

Minimum Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have familiarity with and an enthusiasm for New Leaf's projects as well as an interest in the publishing industry and global publishing. The workload can be quite rigorous and fast paced, so you must be able to keep a cool head under pressure.

-Minimum of 2 years of publishing experience, preferably in subsidiary/foreign rights or contracts.

-Experience in handling foreign contracts is a plus.

-Superior organizational skills, must be detail-oriented and able to prioritize and keep track of a large volume of work effectively

-Excellent communication (written and verbal) and people skills

-Able to set priorities under pressure and to work independently

-Proficient with office software, especially Google Workspace, Basecamp and Adobe Acrobat

-Familiarity with CRM and/or contract management software/databases (Filemaker) is a plus

Simon & Schuster is seeking an Editor to acquire and edit nonfiction for the Threshold Editions imprint. This role will focus on political nonfiction in the conservative space. The ideal candidate will be a meticulous editor, a terrific communicator with a sharp eye, someone who will consistently pursue and attract new authors, and has strong agent relationships. The ideal candidate will be a meticulous editor, a terrific communicator with a sharp eye, someone who will consistently pursue and attract new authors, and has strong agent relationships. The role will be fully involved... in the publishing process through production and the editor will work to make the title succeed after publication. The ideal candidate will have a deep awareness of and curiosity about current events, politics, and political trends in the marketplace.

Specific responsibilities include:

• Solicit, acquire, and edit books for publication.

• Work with the art, publicity and marketing teams to package and position books.

• Act as the in-house liaison between editorial and the production, design, art, and managing editorial departments, as well as the sales, marketing and publicity teams.

• Work closely with the Deputy Publisher and Executive Editor to build a well-rounded list.

• Communicate with authors and agents in all phases of the publishing process, from acquisition to publish date.

• Prepare profit and loss statements, research comp titles, and provide justification memos for potential acquisitions

• Draft jacket copy, tip sheets, and launch materials

• Handle all aspects of manuscript transmission to Production

• Effectively represent own list as well as other books on the Threshold list to media, booksellers, and other out-of-house contacts beyond authors and agents.

Minimum of 5 years of publishing experience in editorial acquisitions for a general trade publisher

Strong editing capabilities

Established contacts in the agent community

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills

Strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to negotiate with authors and agents

Proven ability to set priorities under pressure and multi-task effectively

Excellent attention to detail

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams, etc
