To ensure that the journalists who are supported by the Pulitzer Center can play their role and work effectively across borders, we are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented coordinator to tackle a range of administrative tasks. We are looking for a person who is passionate about facilitating the work of a diverse group of individuals and media outlets and driven to improve organizational processes and to find solutions to unexpected problems.
The Pulitzer Center is a nonprofit organization that supports the development of independent, quality journalism worldwide. In addition to providing reporting grants, the Pulitzer Center manages networks of journalists working together on areas of common interest, creating the conditions for long-term, cross-border investigative projects.
As a part of the Editorial department, the Program Coordinator will assist with planning and coordination of the program and its activities. They will monitor implementation of program policies and practices, work to keep programs on schedule, within stated budgets and functioning smoothly, supporting program growth and development. They will execute standard processes and activities for the program in coordination with all internal teams including finance, human resources, and other operational systems. The Program Coordinator's responsibilities include a great degree of internal and external stakeholder management to support the goals of the broader Editorial department, requiring a highly organized multi-tasker. The Pulitzer Center Editorial department empowers a global community of journalists and media outlets to deepen engagement with critical underreported issues, bridge divides, and spur change. Our team evaluates hundreds of journalistic project proposals annually to identify the most compelling ones to support in the US and globally and fosters networks and other initiatives that bring together journalists working on underreported systemic stories.
Responsibilities:
Program administration
Maintains accurate and up-to-date program resource files, records, and documentation.
Supports the writing, reviewing, and editing of reports, legal agreements, and other program documents.
Supports the collection of information, including legal documentation, from external stakeholders including grantees and fellows. Provides liaison assistance to external stakeholders on navigating Pulitzer processes.
Coordinates payments to consultants and partners and serves as the first point of contact for administrative and operational issues.
Coordinates travel arrangements for team members.
Support the planning and facilitation of team meetings and retreats, including creating agendas, taking minutes, systematizing and sharing meeting outcomes and being the point person for follow-ups.
Editorial & cross-team collaboration
Collaborates with the broader Editorial team to identify, develop, and implement organizational systems and infrastructure that will improve cross-team collaboration, overall organizational effectiveness, and operational performance.
Works with Operations Finance teams as well as Editorial staff to ensure proper coding of expenses including credit card transactions and other forms of payments.
Provides operational support to payment process, financial reviews, and system improvements
Collaborates with the Pulitzer Center's technology department to establish and operate communication and project management platforms.
Impact tracking and reporting
According to the program objectives and results framework, help to coordinate routine collection of quantitative and qualitative indicators of the impacts of programs in the Editorial department including the Rainforest Journalism Fund, the Rainforest Investigations Network, the Oceans Initiative, and other initiatives and networks.
Support the entry and analysis of impact, event, and partner data in Salesforce.
Contribute to program evaluation through surveys, research, focus groups, and more, and support collection and compilation of impact resulting from Editorial initiatives.
Support annual reporting to donors by compiling and organizing impact information.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree.
Strong project management skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks without compromising quality.
Exemplary communication, writing, and presentation skills in order to motivate and work effectively and sensitively with journalists and editors worldwide.
The ability to work independently and to have an open and collaborative management style, characteristic of a team player.
Fluency in oral and written English. Proficiency in at least one of the languages common in the rainforest regions (French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Bahasa Indonesia) is a big plus.

The intern will update the website from the backend and be the point-person to build RJF posts for the RJF and Pulitzer Center websites.Blogs and resources: Coordinate or (co)author blog posts on RJF events, content and resource summaries for the RJF website. Social Media: Support the RJF and Pulitzer Center’s team in preparing content or posts for social media (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) to promote RJF projects, opportunities, and resources.Newsletter: Support the RJF and Pulitzer Center teams in developing a newsletter and other resources (assessing survey results, identifying target audiences, working on templates and plans).Research and content mappingMedia Landscape Mapping: Support coordination and updates of RJF media landscape mapping. The intern would assist the RJF and Pulitzer Center in compiling / advancing / updating research on media landscapes in RJF’s main target regions (Amazon, Congo Basin and Southeast Asia) and globallyContent mapping: Co-lead the maintenance of RJF and rainforest-related story mapping. The intern would work as a team to update and assess content theme and topic of RJF-supported stories Support RJF team to prepare tip sheets or resources for RJF promotion activities.Editorial / PublishingPublishing of RJF stories: Together with RJF’s communication lead, coordinate review of RJF-supported stories and edit based on Pulitzer Center’s editorial and website guidelines Translation Support: Work with RJF manager to compile and translate RJF stories and website materials. Event and outreachEvent coordination: Support RJF manager and team in coordinating in-person or virtual events (outreach, workshops, webinars). Working as a team, support in developing plans, managing logistics, and implementing events/sessions.Event documentation: The intern can create event announcements, document events and interview participants to highlight events/sessionsRequirementsDegree in journalism, environment, international development or related disciplinesProfessional/written proficiency in one of the RJF languages (Spanish, Portuguese, French, Bahasa Indonesia)Demonstrated interest in global environmental issuesStrong writing and communication skillsStrong organizational skills and attention to detail Professional/written proficiency in one or more of the RJF languages (Spanish, Portuguese, French, Bahasa Indonesia)Experience conducting research in multiple languages (either proficiency or with translation software)Start date: June 01, 2023Compensation Salary range listed above is for US-based interns. All non-US salaries are adjusted based on an international conversion index.
