Job Description:

Description of Current Environment:

The current PE environment is comprised of single puppet master running Puppet Enterprise 2016.4. The code base is comprised of a few special purpose puppet modules that manage our spacewalk client, special application init scripts, installation of a rubrik client, and a handful of others, however the bulk of the code is a monolithic puppet module that contains roughly 3000 lines of code with classes that manage most other system functions. (users, firewalls, implemented CIS guidelines, packages, etc).

The code base currently exists in an on-prem gitlab server, with some basic CI/CD that pushes code changes to the puppet server using gitlab’s CI/CD.

Description of End State:
• The desired end state of the project would see GWIT with a monolithic puppet master server running the most current version of the Long Term Support branch of Puppet Enterprise.
• The module containing the bulk of the code would be broken into smaller modules to ease debugging and code maintenance in the future.
• User and Firewall management must be separated from the large module.
• Guidance on grouping other managed resources will be accepted.
• It is preferred that the system classification to the web console using the same custom facts, the current hierarchy is acceptable if this is deemed too challenging for the time contracted.
• The new code will be stored in github, with actions and on-prem runners providing the needed CI/CD.
• GWIT has examples in place and will manage the on-prem runners for the engagement.
