Position Overview
The primary responsibility of the Adjunct Faculty member is teaching. We are seeking adjunct instructors for the following course at Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) :
GENE 5120 Bioinformatics in Python (Fall, 1.5 credit hours)
Course Description
This course focuses on exploring fundamental bioinformatics principles primarily using the Python software environment, including sequence alignment and variant calling.
Students will gain hands-on experience retrieving information from biological databases, executing existing packages and toolkits commonly used in bioinformatics, and building genomics workflows for data analysis.
Other topics may include Linux server management, cloud computing, data security and visualization, and SQL.
The successful candidate must share in the mission of KGI and the Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences Programs. The Adjunct Faculty member reports directly to the Associate Dean of Faculty and works collaboratively with the Program Directors and other faculty.
Located in beautiful Claremont, California, Keck Graduate Institute is a member of the prestigious Claremont Colleges, a consortium of five undergraduate liberal arts colleges, two graduate institutions, and The Claremont Colleges Services, which provide shared institutional support services.

Education and Experience
• Minimum of a Master’s degree in a related field. A doctoral degree is strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience.
• Prior experience in teaching for active learning preferred.
• Experience with the Canvas learning management system is a plus.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities :
Individuals must possess knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions may be performed, with or without, reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
• Provides high-quality student instruction
• Evaluates student performance (e.g., written assignments, examinations, in-class activities);
• Provides remedial instruction as needed
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Individuals must possess knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions may be performed, with or without, reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team and collaboratively with other departments.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing;
possess the ability to listen to all points of view, build consensus, and inform others of policies and decisions.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze and present complex issues to diverse individuals and groups.
• Experience working with a diverse campus community and possess a commitment to equity and inclusion.
Special Requirements :
Keck Graduate Institute has implemented a SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) and Influenza Vaccination Program covering all employees and students.

Physical and Mental Requirements
Ability to maintain good concentration while dealing with interruptions; attention to details with emphasis on accuracy;
