Our Clients are buy and hold investors, syndicators, and property managers spanning both residential and commercial real estate assets. We support nearly every PMS (property management software system), and we need to ensure each and every team member is proficiently trained on the software they... are assigned to work on.

We are seeking a Training and Education Leader to launch this program from scratch. While training materials exist, there is no formal training program in place, and that is what we are looking to create. We are a young and entrepreneurial company, and thus the Training and Education Leader has the opportunity to develop this program with significant autonomy.

Before getting into the details of technical skills required for this position, it’s important to give more context on the position:
• There are many accountants in the world, but there are not nearly as many accountants that know property accounting. At the same time, there are many real estate professionals that need property accountants to help them scale their back office. That is where REA comes in, and that is the ultimate job of the Training and Education Leader.
• GE was long considered the company that had the best management development program. If you wanted to become a manager, you wanted to work at GE to go through their training program. We are on a quest to build the equivalent property accounting training program at REA.
• The ideal candidate is an accountant turned trainer that loves to teach and educate and has a passion for property accounting and technology.
• You have to be a self starter and enjoy working independently to enjoy this role, given you will initially be a team of one. Current team members will contribute to the training, but you will be in charge.
• But to be clear, this is more of ‘doer’ role than a manager role.
• Lastly, If you don’t like fast paced and constantly changing entrepreneurial companies, this is not the right place for you! 🙂

Responsibilities and Tasks:
• Develop and execute a company-wide training program for property accountants.
• Instruct and guide professionals on property accounting basics, emphasizing proficiency in AppFolio, Yardi, and Buildium.
• Teaching the accountants other core accounting basics including but not limited to:
• Real estate specific concepts, such as how to account for brokerage commissions, rental income, capex vs R&M, etc.
• How to record property purchases and sales, including 1031 exchanges
• How to prepare a balance sheet reconciliation, including how to substantiate each account on the balance sheet
• How to record GPR
• 3rd party management vs owner operator concepts
• Basics behind common area maintenance (CAM) reconciliations
• Collaborate with internal teams to identify training needs and tailor programs accordingly.
• Create engaging and effective training materials, including documentation, presentations, and multimedia content.
• Stay updated on industry trends and software updates to ensure training content is current.
• Conduct training sessions through virtual platforms, fostering an interactive and supportive learning environment.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through assessments and feedback mechanisms.
• Provide ongoing support and resources for continuous learning and skill development.

Qualifications and Skills:
• Previous experience in a leadership role designing and delivering training programs.
• Background as a former property accountant, demonstrating a strong understanding of property accounting principles.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to adapt training methods to accommodate diverse learning styles.
• Tech-savvy with proficiency in property accounting software, including (but not limited to) AppFolio, Yardi, and Buildium.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a virtual environment.

Education and Experience:
• No specific educational requirements.
• Prior experience in training leadership roles and a background as an accountant are preferred.

Location:
• 100% virtual, allowing flexibility for remote work
