From pets to parenting, there’s a community... for everybody on Reddit and with over 50 million daily active users, it is home to the most open and authentic conversations on the internet. For more information, visit redditinc.com.
Reddit is continuing to grow our teams with the best talent. This role is completely remote friendly and will continue to be after the pandemic.
Advertising is Reddit’s primary business model and we have an ambitious goal to turn it into a massive business to fund Reddit’s mission to bring community and belonging to everyone in the world. Although several large digital ad platforms already exist, advertisers are being increasingly drawn to Reddit because of our passionate communities that drive action. This large number of self-governed communities have highly-engaged users who are in an unduplicated mindset of consuming relevant information. This has created the opportunity for Reddit to build a massive and highly differentiated ads business.
The Business Foundations team builds products that meet the unique needs of Reddit’s largest customers, which currently encompasses two major work-streams:
Ads API
Reddit aspires to build a large ecosystem of Ads API partners. We believe that the API can be a significant revenue driver and mechanism for acquiring new advertisers. We launched our alpha with five partners last year, and there’s much more work to do in order to bring our API to general availability.
Business Identities
Large businesses and agencies require advanced functionality to structure and manage access to their ad accounts. We’ve undergone a major rearchitecting of our ads platform over the last year to enable these use cases, and now we’re ready to start building features on top of this new architecture, including Single Sign On, User Permissions, Sharing Entities Across Businesses.
What You’ll Do
Business Foundations Vision
We’re still in the early days for our two major Business Foundations work-streams: Ads API and Business Identities. You will develop a deep understanding of your customers' needs in those two areas. You’ll know as much as anyone at Reddit about large customers, agencies, and API partners. You will ensure your team’s technical decisions align with customer needs, act as a thought partner to your product managers, and advocate for your customers to senior management.
Team Building
You will take on a high performing team of ICs and an EM. You will identify your team’s needs, write job descriptions, source, interview, and help close candidates. You will have the support of our incredible recruiting team to bring diverse and talented engineers into Reddit. You will also determine how best to organize your team in order to achieve business goals and meet customer needs.
Execution
You will own the execution of your team’s roadmap and be accountable for consistent, predictable delivery. You will ruthlessly prioritize both planned projects and emergent asks. You will coach EMs and Tech Leads on project management and empower your team to execute autonomously. You will identify risks and proactively communicate them both internally and externally.
Career Development
You will help your engineers and managers identify career goals and create development plans to achieve them. You will constantly seek opportunities to push your team outside their comfort zone and turn followers into leaders.
Quality Control
You will work with your team to develop processes and tooling that constantly improve the quality of our products and systems, ensuring that they meet product requirements, customer needs, and SLAs.
As the owner of our Ads API, you’ll also be responsible for developing accountability mechanisms to ensure downstream services meet their SLAs.
Organizational Alignment
You will serve as a thought partner to product and upper management to ensure your team’s plans align with company goals. You will become an expert in the digital ads business and our customer needs. You will participate in and challenge prioritization decisions. You will communicate your team’s work and set expectations with external stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
• 4+ year as an Engineering Manager
• Experience in one of the following domains:
• Public APIs
• Ads Managers
• B2B SaaS
• Experience mentoring and growing engineering managers
• You're technical, enough to solve almost any problem your team has yourself, but you prefer to guide your team into solving them
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You must be able to collaborate effectively with teams in a fully-remote environment and discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences
• Familiarity with distributed systems and service-oriented architectures
Benefits:
• Comprehensive Health benefits
• 401k Matching
• Workspace benefits for your home office
• Personal & Professional development funds
• Family Planning Support
• Flexible Vacation (please use them!) & Reddit Global Days Off
• 4+ months paid Parental Leave
• Paid Volunteer time off

Reddit users submit, vote, and comment on content, stories, and discussions about the topics they care about the most. From pets to parenting, there’s a community... for everybody on Reddit and with over 50 million daily active users, it is home to the most open and authentic conversations on the internet. For more information, visit redditinc.com.
We’re evolving and continuing our mission to bring community, belonging, and empowerment to everyone in the world. Providing a delightful and relevant experience to our users applies to our Ads like all of our offerings, and we’re excited to build a product that is best-in-class for our users and advertisers. The year ahead is a busy one! This is a general post for multiple teams. If any of these points resonate, don’t hesitate to apply and learn more about what we’re working on.
As a Software Engineer focussed on building data infrastructure, you will build and maintain the data infrastructure tools used by the entire Reddit Ads Org to generate, ingest, and access petabytes of raw data, with a focus on performance and optimization. You will write scalable / fault tolerant code while collaborating with a team of top engineers, all while learning about and contributing to one of the most powerful streaming event pipelines in the world. You will also develop standards, and frameworks to ensure a high level of data quality to help shape the future of the data platform at Reddit Ads.
Not only will your work directly impact hundreds of millions of users around the world, but your output will also shape the data culture across all of Reddit!
This is a staff level backend position within the Ads Organization. Ads is the fuel that powers Reddit’s mission.
Technologies used on the team include:
• Languages: Scala, Go, Python, Java
• Frameworks: Spark, Thrift, Baseplate, Kafka, Flink, Thrift, Airflow
• Datastores: Postgres, Cassandra, Druid, Redis, BigQuery
• Tools: Kubernetes, Argo, Docker
Staff level engineers are expected to be leaders on their team and in their organization. Engineers at this level must be able to take ambiguous problems, design a solution, then lead other engineers in implementing that solution. These engineers must also be able to identify problems in their team independently, not just be assigned work to complete. Excellent skills in designing maintainable, scalable distributed systems are a must. Finally, mentorship is a requirement for engineers at this level. These engineers should make the people around them better.
Coding is still a critical part of the job for senior-to-staff engineers.
We are a remote-first team with positions available anywhere in the United States and Canada.
Responsibilities:
• Build data pipelines with distributed streaming tools such as Kafka, Kinesis, Flink, or Spark
• Build and maintain real time analytics database systems, via a hybrid design, using tools such as druid/pinot.
• Refine and maintain our data infrastructure technologies to support real-time analysis of hundreds of millions of users.
• Own the data pipeline that surfaces 65B+ daily events to all teams, and the tools we use ingestion, storage and to improve data quality.
• Design and implement tooling for access management, monitoring, data controls, and self-service ETL creation
• Own data quality for crucial systems at Reddit. Define and manage SLAs for datasets that support production services, including an on-call rotation for Data Warehouse tools
• Infrastructure that supports all of the above
Requirements:
• Successful track record of building data infrastructure to process/store data at petabyte scale
• Deep Experience developing, maintaining and debugging distributed systems built with open source tools
• Experience designing and implementing real time analytics database systems, using tools such as druid/pinot/redis
• Experience optimizing the end to end performance of data infrastructure (database tuning for query performance, build tooling to make database management easier)
• Experience managing and designing complex real time and batch data pipelines
• Experience designing and implement tooling for access management, monitoring, data controls, and self-service ETL creation
• Experience with at least one of these - Java, Golang, Scala and Python. Experience with (or desire to learn) Kubernetes.
Benefits:
• Comprehensive Health benefits
• 401k Matching
• Workspace benefits for your home office
• Personal & Professional development funds
• Family Planning Support
• Flexible Vacation (please use them!) & Reddit Global Days Off
• 4+ months paid Parental Leave
• Paid Volunteer time off
