The city of Clearwater's Planning and Development department is hiring Development Review Technicians. DRT's assist our customers with their building permit applications, providing technical and clerical work pertaining to construction and city development in a fast paced, fun environment.
After an initial training period of a minimum of six months and successful completion of position competencies, a Development Review Technician (DRT) may be eligible for a Senior Development Review Technician position, with a starting salary of $41,622.36.
Current recruitment is for our Planning & Development Department/Building Permits and Business Tax Receipts divisions. Please note that this position may vary slightly depending upon which division candidates are selected for.Essential Functions: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Provides technical review and administrative work for the Planning and Development department; assists customers, inspectors, contractors, and other departments with questions, permitting, and code complaints.
• Verifies and determines proper licensing and documentation for the submission of building, fire, sign, and temporary use permits; enters data and creates permit cases; routes permits through channels for review and processing; assesses and determines appropriate fees and stamps, labels, organizes, and issues permit documents.
• Accepts, processes, and issues Business Tax Receipts, renewals, and changes; responds to emails and phone calls requesting information or inquiring about application questions; creates cases, organizes information, and routes case for review.
• Tracks and engage with customers waiting to speak to department; answers phones, returns phone messages, researches addresses for inspectors, and assists with all open, closed, or active cases.
• Processes and responds to online code complaints through various online systems; handles concerns submitted by residents, employees, title companies, and real estate agents.
• Receives and processes various payments on a daily basis; balances the account ledgers and handles other cashiering activities; monitors all transactions occurring throughout the day.
• Researches and investigates addresses, business information, utility accounts, internet, and public records for customers and inspectors; provides information quickly, accurately, and efficiently.
• Creates and issues Certificates of Occupancy and other construction certificates; performs research, schedules inspections, monitors completion of all tasks, and connects with inspectors to establish conditions for determining whether a permit can be closed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
A valid State driver's license is required.
