Our cooks are responsible for preparation and/or cooking of food for various food service units across campus.

Job Summary

Executes advanced hot food preparation in RIT Dining locations. The primary responsibility (>60% of the job) is to cook full entrees that requires advanced food preparation techniques. Provides mentorship and acts as a resource to Cook I. Ensures quality food preparation, safety, sanitation, and customer service.

Major Responsibilities
• Cooks entrees to include proteins and sides requiring advanced food preparation techniques. Prepares menu items according to production specification and recipes from menu management database.
• Assist in training and supervising staff and students on all food procedures for both front and back of the house of operation and on proper use, cleaning, and sanitization of equipment.
• Provides support to Junior Sous Chefs or Sous Chefs on special projects. Continuously provides input into development of menus.
• May perform similar cooking duties as Cook I such as short orders such as hamburgers, chicken, eggs, and other grill items as well as prepare cold food items such as items for delicatessen/salad bar and compound salads.
• Washes, cuts, and prepares hot and cold foods.
• Ensures all prepared food is satisfactory in quality and quantity prepared, and served and stored at proper temperatures and times.
• Assists in maintaining proper labeling, rotation, and storage of food items.
• Cleans cooking utensils, grills, ovens, hoods, and other kitchen equipment.
• Maintains sanitation and health and safety standards. Serve as a good example for proper sanitation, cleaning and personal hygiene.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
• High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of experience in a high volume restaurant, country club, or institutional setting.
• Servsafe certified or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
• Allertain certified or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
• Must successfully complete Cook II culinary skills test.

THE COLLEGE: RIT's College of Art and Design is the university's creative hub where art, design, science, and technology intersect in our 200,000+ sq. ft. facility. We are a dynamic and professional arts and design community comprised of 1,900 students (UG and Grad), nearly 140 full-time faculty, 60 creative staff, and a number of professional part-time faculty, all of whom contribute to our College’s ecosystem. The College’s four schools offer programs in Art, Design, Crafts, Film and Animation, Photography and Photographic Sciences. The Computer Science Department is the largest academic unit at RIT, with over 1400 students in the bachelor's, master's, and advanced certificate programs. The Coordinator plays a key role in building community among the students and to foster their affinity with the department and its faculty and staff. This includes planning events and establishing/maintaining department traditions such as the Harvest Festival, Ice Cream Socials, etc. They oversee and supervise all details related to the department's participation in university-wide events such as Open House, Brick City Homecoming Weekend, and Commencement, among others.

The Coordinator will also be responsible for creating and maintaining the department's marketing presence and content such as social media posts, newsletters, web updates, etc. Additionally, The Coordinator will work closely with the Computer Science Community student group and serve as their liaison to the department and RIT. Additionally they will work with the college’s Director Marketing & Communications to manage the department’s web presence and provide occasional assistance in managing the college’s social media presence.

The Marketing & Student Experience Coordinator also plays a key role in the department's academic support activities by hiring, training, and supervising nearly 100 student employees each semester including office workers, graders, student lab instructors, and graduate assistants. They are responsible for creating and/or revising various processes related to student employment within the department, with the goal of developing efficient ways to process hire paperwork, time-cards, etc.

Other duties as assigned.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to interpret and comply with complicated policies and follow procedures

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred experience/skills:
• 3+ years of related experience
• Experience with PeopleSoft/SIS and Oracle
• Experience managing professional social media accounts
• Event planning experience
• Basic graphic design software skills or a willingness to learn
