Our mission is to be the TV streaming platform that connects the entire TV ecosystem. We connect consumers to the content they love, enable content publishers to build and monetize large audiences, and provide advertisers unique capabilities to engage consumers.
From your first day at Roku, you’ll make a valuable — and valued — contribution. We’re a fast-growing public company where no one is a bystander. We offer you the opportunity to delight millions of TV streamers around the world while gaining meaningful experience across a variety of disciplines.
About the Team
Our talented and diverse UX team delights users one design at a time, while building and enhancing a UX culture within Roku that nurtures our ongoing enrichment and elevates the UX maturity across the company and the industry.
We believe that great user experiences come from people who have the vision to see the big picture on the macro side while still maintaining an incredible attention to detail on the micro side. More than ability to keep the vision while managing the minutiae: We need someone who can play three-dimensional chess on the axes of what our customers need, what our world-class engineers can produce, with the third axis being keeping things as elegantly easy as possible (and no more).
Note: Roku only offers two titles: “UX Product Designer” and “Senior UX Product Designer”. To be considered for the Senior title, a candidate should have at least six years of industry experience.
About the Role
Roku is looking for talented, well-rounded Sr. Product Designer who can craft easy-to-use and delightful experiences for Roku web UI, that support the amazing Roku entertainment experience and ecosystem. For this role, we need a web and mobile-savvy senior interaction designer with extensive consumer web design experience who has the vision to see the big picture on the macro side while still maintaining a deep focus and attention to detail on the micro side; an individual who is fluent in engineering speak and has a track record of driving concepts to production.
This person is focused on design excellence and thoughtful about delivering design solutions that create engagement. The ideal candidate will have a track record of creating impactful company web presences as well as delightful and easy to use learn, shop, and buy web experiences.
For California Only - The estimated annual salary for this position is between $160,000 and $319,000 annually.
Compensation packages are based on factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, certifications, and specific geographical location.
This role is eligible for health insurance, equity awards, life insurance, disability benefits, parental leave, wellness benefits, and paid time off.
What you will be doing
• Revolutionize the Roku.com experience from the ground up.
• Design holistically to create a cohesive and coherent experience across Roku.com, from learn, shop, and buy to customer service.
• Communicate the user experience at various stages of the design process with wireframes, flow diagrams, storyboards, mockups, specs, and/or lightweight prototypes
• Balance qualitative and quantitative data to make user-centered design decisions
• Work closely with Product Managers to identify the problems and business goals that your designs will address
We’re excited if you have
• 6+ years relevant experience in Interaction Design
• Proficiency in delivering delightful and effective consumer web experiences and/or shipped products, demonstrating deep fluency of modern web standards and responsive/mobile design practices
• Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment, and to embrace opportunities to rapidly iterate on designs
• A passion for the end-to-end user experience
• Hands-on experience working with our stellar User Researchers (or conducting User Research yourself) and utilizing the results of that research to shape your designs
• Endless empathy for the user
About Our Hiring Process for this Role:
We know your time is valuable, so we love being transparent about our hiring processes.
For this Interaction Designer role, we typically start with a call from your dedicated Roku recruiter. Then you’ll have a follow-up call with the Hiring Manager (Manager, UX Design, Roku Players and Remotes) After that, we’ll ask you to do a 35-minute portfolio presentation to a panel of 2 of our senior UX Designers. In this presentation, we’ll want you to walk us through a couple of projects you’ve done that you’re especially proud of. You’ll tell us what your role was, what your process was, what went well and what didn’t, how it turned out, and what you learned from it. Then you’ll have one-on-one meetings with 2 more key stakeholders, (a Researcher, PM or business leader), and that’s it! Throughout the process, your Roku recruiter will be there for you every step of the way.
We’d love to tell you more details about this role, the responsibilities you’ll have, and the products you’ll be working on – let’s talk!

The Roku Culture
Roku is a great place for people who want to work in a fast-paced environment where everyone is focused on the company's success rather than their own. We try to surround ourselves with people who are great at their jobs, who are easy to work with, and who keep their egos in check. We appreciate a sense of humor. We believe a fewer number of very talented folks can do more for less cost than a larger number of less talented teams. We’re independent thinkers with big ideas who act boldly, move fast and accomplish extraordinary things through collaboration and trust. In short, at Roku you'll be part of a company that's changing how the world watches TV.
We have a unique culture that we are proud of. We think of ourselves primarily as problem-solvers, which itself is a two-part idea. We come up with the solution, but the solution isn't real until it is built and delivered to the customer. That penchant for action gives us a pragmatic approach to innovation, one that has served us well since 2002.
