HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION

The Terns & Plovers, Monitoring, and Research Coordinator I conducts and oversees assigned research and/or training operations in a specialized area of biological and/or social science. This position reports to a Supervisor level or higher in the Conservation Science & Wildlife Health department.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Carry out laboratory, diagnostic, educational, or field research projects.
• Assist in the coordination of program-related activities.
• Document, summarize, and analyze data.
• Assist with interpreting research findings and revising procedures as necessary to achieve desired results.
• Assist in the development of research plans, training procedures, and/or engagement tools.
• Assist with the care and maintenance of equipment, supplies, and facilities.
• Maintain records and inventory supplies.
• May train and instruct volunteers, students, and community members and internal and external audiences in facility operations, animal care, and research procedures.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The SDZWA Conservation Science team is seeking a highly qualified and motivated candidate to form part of a team focused on research and monitoring of California least terns and Western snowy plovers. Successful candidates must have a bachelor's degree in wildlife biology, ecology, marine science or a related field as well as more than three years of experience with seabird and shorebird conservation research, monitoring (nest checks and banding), and leading field crews.

Being a field intensive position, candidate should be able to cover 5-7 miles of beach habitat per day during nesting season, as well as have proficiency in capturing/banding avian wildlife and identifying local bird species and potential avian and mammalian predators (including evidence of predators). Candidate must also have broad experience documenting, summarizing and presenting monitoring and research data in reports and publications, have excellent scientific writing skills, effective oral communication, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Iddition, candidate must be well skilled in analyzing data using Matlab and R (RSutdio) statistical computing and graphical software as well as ESRI and open-source Geographic Information System software, and SQL databases. Finally, forming part of a diverse team of people working in varied conditions-including military bases-candidate should have strong emotional intelligence and soft skills.
• JOB EXPERIENCE
• 2 years of laboratory, diagnostic, animal care, or field experience required.
• EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's Degree in biological sciences or equivalent specialized training required.
• SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
• Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

• Able to operate moderately complex computer software programs.

The Food Service Clerk under supervision, prepares, serves and sells food items. A Food Service Clerk is assigned and responsible for one or more areas of food preparation, service, sales and maintenance. This position reports to the Food Stand Lead, Supervisor and Manager.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Prepares and sells food items
• Assists with daily preparation of food items as needed
• Assists with the daily set-up and closure of assigned location
• Operates food service equipment and machines safely
• Assists with maintaining a safe and sanitary work area
• Keeps all necessary food items and supplies stocked
• Practices safe food handling procedures
• Follows cash handling protocol and procedures
• Operates a cash register and handles cash accurately
• Make Customer Service a top priority
• Provides information to guests or directs to a knowledgeable source
• Professionally handle difficult situations with employees or guests
• Good work ethics and meets Organization performance standards
• Assists new personnel as needed
• Assists Lead, Cooks, Manager and Supervisor as needed
• Compliance with SDZWA and Health Departments uniform standards
• Maintains a passing grade on the Environmental Health Department tests

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

If you are 18 years or older and selected for this role you will be required to complete the Responsible Beverage Service Training (RBS) within 60 days of your hire date. Training will be provided to you by the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance and completed on site.
