Northern Star Scouting has an excellent job opportunity for you as a part-time Base Camp Program Guide. You will lead youth and adults through experiences that inspire active learning. With training from Base Camp leadership, you will provide each group with a valuable and unique Base Camp experience.

The job may be tailored as an internship if needed; it is your responsibility to determine if academic credit is available within your academic department and degree program.

Starting hourly wage is $16.00 and benefits include training in several program areas, personal leadership development, use of program equipment, free parking, great co-workers, and the satisfaction of making a difference in the lives of youth. Northern Star Scouting also offers a Sick and Safe Time program for all part-time employees.

Qualifications
• Must be age 16 or older
• Strong communication skills are required
• Experience working directly with youth in the classroom, outdoor recreation sites, summer sites, summer youth camp, or other youth programs preferred
• Experience working with diverse populations between ages of 7 to 21 is desired

Base Camp is located at 6202 Bloomington Road, Fort Snelling, MN, 55111, near the MSP airport. The Fort Snelling Light Rail station is 1/3 of a mile from our campus and provides an additional method of transportation to and from work.

The Programs run most days of the year including weekends and evenings. The number of hours you will work is based on personal availability, as well as reservations on our program calendar. Staff are scheduled each week for the following 10 to 16 days based on their availability making this role a very flexible opportunity that works well with other obligations you may have.

Principle Responsibilities:
• Directly supervise the Bravo Basecamp Manager and the Mountain Rovers, to help them maintain a friendly, cheerful, and helpful attitude to ensure that participants have a safe and enjoyable experience.
• Carry out the prescribed policies and procedures of the Summit as outlined in the Staff Guidebook and during staff training.
• Present oneself to every participant and guest clean, sharp appearing and correctly uniformed as described in the Staff Guidebook.
• Write an end of season report with accurate inventories and recommendations for improving the operation of the commissioner staff.
• Serve as a coach and counselor to each member of their staff so that they can effectively serve as a member of a successful team.
• Provide periodic performance evaluations of staff including a written mid-season review and a final staff evaluation.
• Schedule staff so that the number of staff required to fulfill the duties is present to satisfy Summit guest needs and so that staff is appropriately rested.
• Communicates with units and participants and makes sure they are having a quality experience.
• Communicates with the leadership of the various high adventure and program departments to address issues and communicate positives that they are hearing from their units.
• Observe high adventure program delivery across The Summit.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the management team.

Qualifications & Training:
• Must be at least 21 years of age by the start of employment.
• Must have or be able to obtain Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR Adult certifications.
• Must be able to secure a Summit Driving permit. This includes submitting your driving record.
• Submit a completed BSA health and medical form.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Facilitates training courses regularly throughout the council jurisdiction
• Facilitates and meets established objectives and satisfaction scores for all courses delivered
• Ensures the accurate distribution of resources and information to volunteers
• Identifies the need for problem solving and conflict resolution when appropriate and in a timely manner
• Ensures Girl Scouting is open to all girls and adults by delivering the Girl Scouts' message of pluralism and diversity to all members of the council
• Keeps current of all council program information and supports training and messaging that is offered to trainers and volunteers
• Acts as the council subject matter expert for all item related to and impacting adult training
• Provides required reports as needed to assist the council in meeting their goals and objectives
• Represents and actively participates in volunteer-led weekend training events such as Outdoor Blast, Mountain Magic, and Super Saturdays

• Teaching or training experience 2 years; professional certifications in training or teaching a plus
• Ability to work well with people of multiple cultures and backgrounds
• Ability to learn and facilitate a wide range of training designed by Girl Scouts or other certifying agencies. These will include training related to parent engagement, troop leader skills, STEM programs, and outdoor programs.
• 4-year college degree
• Valid Georgia Driver's license
• Must meet a criminal, national sex offender search, motor vehicle and credit background
PREFERRED SKILLS
• Volunteer experience in Girls Scouts is a plus
• Strong oral or written communication skills. Bilingual skills an asset
• Strong human relations skills; ability to motivate people in small and large group settings
• Experience in working with youth in a formal or informal setting, such as teaching or youth development-related programming
• Strong ability to self-manage by working independently and demonstrating a strong work ethic
