The Digital Specialist is one part digital marketing expert and one part online networking guru.
This role supports providing a critical service to our Authors by supporting them in building their network and audience through bolstering their personal brands on digital platforms.
You'll be responsible for creating the digital marketing strategies that grow an Author's network, helping them create great connections, and bringing attention to their book launch. You'll identify where our Authors need to bolster their digital presence and drive engagement to snowball their network and influence before and after their book launch.
Here's how this role breaks down:
Work directly with our Authors to assess their digital presence and identify their needs. Their needs could look like:
Creating a social media presence
Building a website with a lead magnet
Establishing an email newsletter
Launching a digital ad campaign
Build strategies around an Author's digital needs. This could look like:
Building social media strategies to get the Author on the right platforms with targeted content for their intended audience
Planning content to engage the Author's current audience, through digital marketing activities like hosting a giveaway or through an email newsletter
Launching a digital ad campaign post-launch to drive book sales
Work with the Impact team, content writers, copywriters, and graphic designers to create and deliver the assets you determine the Author needs for their various platforms.
You'll analyze how your strategies are performing, report on that data to the Author in a way that is easy for them to understand, and make adjustments to your strategies as necessary. However, you won't need to monitor an Author's social channels 24/7 and respond to every comment or mention – this is not a social media management role.
Experience an equal mix of independent work time where you're required to proactively manage your own tasks, and collaborative time driving results with Scribe's whole Impact team.
If you can nail that, you're probably pretty awesome, which brings us to an important question:
Who are we and what do we do?
We're Scribe Media, and our mission is to help everyone on earth write, publish and market their book.
The problem is that writing and publishing books are, for most people, a painful and difficult process, loaded with uncertainty and aggravation. Our goal is to make it as simple as possible, so that as many people as possible can do it.
We have multiple ways we help people do this. We can edit and publish an already written manuscript (Scribe Publishing (https://scribemedia.com/service/publishing/)), or we can help people write their book using a structured process with our guidance (Scribe Guided Author (https://scribemedia.com/service/guided-author/)), or we can do a structured interview process that gets the book out of them in their words and their voice (Scribe Professional (https://scribemedia.com/service/professional/)).
And if you can't afford our services, that's fine. We give away all of our information for free. Seriously, it's called Scribe Book School (https://scribewriting.com/book-school/), and it's better than any paid course on the internet.
You can see some press about us here (https://scribemedia.com/newsroom/).
And you can see some of the books we've already published here (https://scribemedia.com/published-books/).
Why our work matters
Our company was started because a frustrated entrepreneur wanted to put all of her incredible knowledge and ideas into a book, but didn't have the time to write it or the patience to deal with the frustrating publishing process. So we solved her problem. The origin story is here (https://scribemedia.com/our-origin/).
Her book became an amazing success, and we realized the world was full of these people-smart people who should write a book, but don't, because the process is so painful.
These people want to write books, but don't have the time or desire to do it the old way, and that's why Scribe exists: we help people turn their ideas into books that both cement their legacy and impact the world.
Our process has worked for over 2,000 authors in seven years (https://scribemedia.com/published-books/), and we're growing fast. Our ultimate goal is to help everyone on earth write and publish a book.
If we do that, we'll help create many thousands of books that would never have otherwise existed, changing the lives of millions of people. That's really exciting to us.
To see what we mean, here are some author success stories (https://scribemedia.com/success-stories/) and videos of authors talking (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLiCh0P5qRQ-Dj76_GsgIB1gAiJiFYdiAd) about what their books mean to them, and to their readers.
But if you really want to see why we do this...just watch this video of an author we worked with, Philip McKernan (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixQHOH9wXRg&feature=youtu.be).
What's it like being part of Scribe Media?
We're not going to try to pitch you a load of corporate doublespeak bullshit about how great we are. Instead, we'll just show you proof.

Type of Employment
Full-time
Necessary Skills & Qualifications
Here is the list of skills we believe are necessary for this career.
A thorough understanding of the digital marketing landscape: This position is for seasoned marketing professionals who have experience working at a marketing agency, or in-house (industry does not matter). You know how to actually produce scalable, data-driven digital campaigns and want to more deeply understand the entire PR & marketing ecosystem and how to influence consumer behavior that actually—wait for it—drives RESULTS.
Enthusiastic Learner: We're a rapidly growing team, which means we'll be solving new and complex problems together in this role. That often means we need to teach ourselves new skills by conducting research or connecting with outside experts in order to drive forward our results. The idea of learning new things with a large degree of autonomy should absolutely thrill you.
You're Obsessed with Organization and Have Impeccable Attention to Detail: You must be the type of person who can't stand for things to be out of order. A big part of your role is to bring order to the chaos, at least in terms of social media and digital strategy and how to use a book to drive results. If you geek out over not just the creative aspects of digital marketing, but the spreadsheets, calendars, timelines, and reports, that's a great sign. Impeccable attention to detail is so critical to this role, when the application asks you “what is your favorite animal,” we want you to write “attention to detail is my middle name”.
Strategic and Critical Thinking: Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments, embrace the unknown, and adapt to a quickly changing environment without losing the thread on project goals. For example, you know how to launch, analyze and iterate campaigns based on performance. You set clear expectations for yourself and others for successful outcomes and you can easily assess and pivot to meet those expectations.
Optimistic and Courageously Curious: You deeply enjoy getting to know more about people and their ideas! You're open-minded, service-oriented, and optimistic. You want to know how everything works. You're not afraid to challenge the status quo and you aren't afraid to ask questions to really understand the big picture and get it right the first time.
Excellent Communicator: You should be comfortable and experienced with speaking on the phone and over video with people, as that will be required for this role. You are masterful at summarizing complex topics, both in speaking and writing. You are engaging and clear when communicating, are energized by fielding unexpected questions, and are proactive in sharing updates with your Authors and your team
Salary & Benefits
Full Benefits Package: We don't spend our money on ping pong tables and beanbag chairs. We spend our money on things that matter to our Crew-like a full slate of benefits that would rival any Fortune 50 company.

We offer up to $1,500 in educational assistance to continue your learning.
We have six weeks of paid time off, including holidays and the week between Christmas and New Year's.
If anything awful were to happen to you, we provide life insurance and short- and long-term disability.

Free Book Benefit: Take part in Scribe's Guided Author from Day-1. Scribe's Free Book Benefit is earned every 12 months for Scribe Publishing or Guided Author, and every 36 months for Scribe Editing. You'll also have free access to the entire Scribe library.
Each Crew member gets four fully paid community service days per year. These days can be used to volunteer alongside Crew members at coordinated community events or to individually support causes you care about in your local community.
We believe that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion has no finish line. We hold optional discussions throughout the month led by volunteer Crew members with the goal to provide a safe space for asking questions, openly sharing, and encouraging learning.
Any Crew member who gives birth receives 12 weeks of fully paid time off. Partners of birthing parents, or those involved in adoptions, foster placements, or birth through a surrogate, receive 4 weeks of paid leave.
Up to 10 days of fully-paid, no questions asked Bereavement leave. You define what 'loved one' means to you: be it a parent, a cousin, a best friend, or even a beloved pet.
MacBooks are provided to all full-time Crew members for Scribe work and personal use.
We're supportive of Crew members working to create the lives they imagine! Freedom to do other work on the side is encouraged, as long as the work doesn't compete with or negatively impact Scribe's business.
Be Part Of A Crew: You (should) have seen the videos above. We also have a pretty cool set of principles that we live by as a company, you should check it out, because this is the operating system for our Crew (https://scribemedia.com/culture-bible/), and everyone in our company lives the values and principles outlined in this doc.
Freedom & Flex Work: You can work from your home anywhere in the US, work while you travel, work in our office, make your own hours-we don't care. You can wear a three piece suit (like our CEO), gym clothes, or anything else-we don't care. We only care that you drive results, uphold our values, and perform in your role with reliable phone and internet connections. And we have lots of paid time off each year, because we believe that rest and recovery are just as important as work.
Make A Real Impact: We're a small company (just about 100 full time) and you will be a major part of our team. Not only that, you won't just impact the company, you'll impact the world. Books are one of the very best ways to influence other people and change the way they think-and you'll be helping to make them a reality.
Work With Interesting People: You're not just working on any books. Past authors include major company CEOs, famous entrepreneurs, professional athletes, and people with amazing personal stories. These are books that change lives.

If we already captured your attention and this sounds like your dream role, we expect you to read the entire career description before you apply!
At its core, this role is about much more than writing books. What you do is transform an authors ideas into a compelling, life-changing story in their own voice. You do this by working collaboratively with your book publishing team and writing great content.
This role is different from our Scribe role. If youve applied previously to that role and did not move forward for any reason, including not having worked on a published book, dont let that discourage you from applying for this role! The requirements are different.
Heres how it works:
Each of our authors works with a Book Coach to draw out their ideas. It is your job to work with the Book Coach to create a manuscript out of those conversations. The Book Coach will gather all the juicy information from the author through a series of interviews, and then hand everything over to you.
Then you take over: spinning gold out of straw, weaving stories together to form a cohesive narrative. Once the manuscript is completed, youll get feedback from the Book Coach and guidance on how to revise and polish it into a great book.
From start to finish, youll need to be comfortable with these kinds of tasks:
• Writing excellent content on a variety of subjects from business, to self-help, to memoir
• Inhabiting the worldview of the author and writing in their voice using their own words
• Constructing compelling narrative structures from lots of raw, unedited material
• Working collaboratively with Book Coaches and sticking to writing plans
• Hitting deadlines and delivering top-quality work on time
Basically, you give authors a cohesive and authoritative voice, and ultimately a book they can feel proud to call their own.
If you can nail that, youre probably pretty awesome.
Were Scribe Media, and our mission is to help everyone on earth write, publish and market their book.

Yes, I know what you're thinkingif you are a successful freelance writer this is probably less than your normal rate. But, remember that the reason you have to charge $100-$150 an hour to regular clients is because you have to bake into your fee all the unpaid time you spent finding the client, negotiating your deal, admin work, etc. Working with us, there is none of that unpaid time. What most freelancers find is that though the hourly rate is a little less with us, they actually make more money in total, and their quality of life goes up because they are doing less work that they don't like.
• **Be Part of a Tribe:** This role is intended to begin as freelance, but there is real potential to move to full-time, given you want this and you do a great job. We see ourselves as a tribe of people who are working hard together to accomplish a specific mission (help everyone on earth write, publish and market their book), in service of a larger purpose (help people share their story and leave a legacy of impact on others). We also have a pretty cool set of principles that we live by as a tribe, you should check it out .
• **Freedom:** You can work from anywhere in the USwe don't care. We only care that you have reliable phone and internet connections and that you do your job well.
• **Fun & Fast-Paced Work****:** We dont have boring days. Some are hectic, some are hard, some are incredibly rewarding...but they are never boring and never exactly the same. That's what happens when you're solving real problems for people.
• **Work with Interesting People:** Past authors include major company CEOs, famous entrepreneurs, professional athletes, and people with amazing personal stories.

• ****If this sounds like you, weve got your perfect career.*****
The problem is that writing and publishing books are, for most people, a painful and difficult process, loaded with uncertainty and aggravation. Our goal is to make it as simple as possible, so that as many people as possible can do it.
We have multiple ways we help people do this. We can edit and publish an already written manuscript (), or we can help people write their book using a structured process with our guidance (), or we can do a structured interview process that gets the book out of them in their words and their voice ().
And if you can't afford our services, that's fine. We give away all of our information for free. Seriously, it's called , and it's better than any paid course on the internet.

• ***Why our work matters****
Our company was started because a frustrated entrepreneur wanted to put all of her incredible knowledge and ideas into a book, but didn't have the time to write it or the patience to deal with the frustrating publishing process. So we solved her problem. .
Her book became an amazing success, and we realized the world was full of these people--smart people who should write a book, but dont, because the process is so painful.
These people want to write books, but don't have the time or desire to do it the old way, and that's why Scribe exists: we help people turn their ideas into books that both cement their legacy and impact the world.
Our process has worked for over , and were growing fast. Our ultimate goal is to help everyone on earth write and publish a book.
If we do that, we'll help create many thousands of books that would never have otherwise existed, changing the lives of millions of people. That's really exciting to us.
To see what we mean, here are some and about what their books mean to them, and to their readers.
