Hearst Newspapers is seeking a senior editor to develop and write a daily newsletter that delivers sharp, insightful and useful news to the Seattle community, building on the strong journalistic legacy of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer newspaper. This person will lead a small team of entrepreneurial and ambitious journalists to drive the next phase of... Seattle PI working closely with product, business intelligence and editorial leadership across our other Hearst Newspapers like San Francisco Chronicle, Houston Chronicle, San Antonio Express News, Albany Times Union and CT Insider.
Local news is in a period of vast reinvention and Hearst Newspapers is at the forefront, investing in new ways to serve our local communities. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer will focus on reporting and curating the most important information Seattleites want and need for their day and life in Seattle.
The ideal candidate is an experienced local news editor, with an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for all things Seattle. This editor will oversee a small team that focuses on original reporting on the most impactful topics for the Seattle community, combined with a keen curatorial mind. This editor will have a deep understanding of newsletters, and audience development, plus using data to help make the newsletter better every day.
• At least 5 years experience in journalism, ideally local, most ideally Seattle
• Ability to drive impactful story-telling combined with the pace of breaking news and a daily digital product
• Deep understanding of at least one of the key pillars of Seattle community: politics, education, environment, business
• Ability to write with voice and connect with readers
• Understanding of newsletter communication channel
• Ambition and interest in developing community beyond the inbox with podcast, events etc.
