Each supports the development of the clinical staff, and fosters empowerment through knowledge to achieve excellence through the delivery of evidenced based clinical practice.
This occurs through the facilitation of the educational process through assessment, development, planning, implementation and evaluation of competency assessment, continuing education and staff development.
In addition, as a role model of professional behavior, the Clinical Educator is instrumental in creating a professional clinical climate to meet the needs of the clinical staff in accordance with accreditation guidelines, Title 22, licensure regulations, clinical protocol and LMVNA's policies and procedures.
Essential Job Functions:
In collaboration with the Director of Education/DOPCS, coordinates staff development activities.
Plans and participates in education meetings.
Assists learners in the assessment of needs and identification of outcomes.
Develops, coordinates, and tracks education plans related to initial and ongoing competency validation.
Develops/coordinates core education to address patient population specific clinical care.
Plans, prepares, and maintains materials for use in educational programs for accuracy and relevance to the target audience.
Identifies and evaluates instructional materials in all types of media and formats.
Adjusts content and teaching strategies appropriate to learner needs.
Delivers competence based programs for clinical staff with a focus on improvement of skills and retention of knowledge.
Develops evidence-based educational materials.
Supports staff development with educational activities (which include remediation, certification, mentoring, The Joint Commission requirements, etc.
).
Plans, prepares, schedules, and maintains new-hire orientation - including skills lab training.
Evaluates the effectiveness of educational programming.
Teaches content as needed and/or assigned within clinical expertise to facilitate orientation, staff development and safe practice.
Responds to identified needs of LMVNA to promote quality patient care and safety.
Consults with staff regarding individual learning needs.
Facilitates the adult learning process, creating a climate which supports learning.
Coordinates educational activities (includes continuing education credit, clinical affiliations, preceptorship, etc.
) across LMVNA.
Ensures that educational programs are congruent with LMVNA's mission, values, and goals.
Maintains flexibility when managing multiple roles and responsibilities.
Interprets and communicates across multiple disciplines.
Promotes a safe and healthy work environment.
Serves as a role model for education and professional clinical practice to promote excellence and safety.
Maintains required educational and/or clinical competencies and tracks new-hires.
Integrates ethical principles in all aspects of practice.
Maintains a positive, professional, and respectful attitude.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Current BSN preferred.
Current State of California RN license.
Current CPR certification.
Work requires three years of applied clinical experience as an RN in a health related field or as a clinical educator or instructor.
A Master's Degree in Nursing may be substituted for 2 years of required experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
Excellent computer skills required.
