The Senior Editorial Manager, Medical/Clinical will ensure our foremost titles are grounded by solid and meaningful relationships with Editors and Society Leadership, complimented by a journal management infrastructure that is dedicated to the needs of authors, researchers, peer reviewers, funding agencies, corporate and commercial sponsors, society leadership, and all entities that support the mission of driving scientific innovation forward. As an independent publisher we are pleased to be the sole owner of many of the Medical and Clinical titles we produce and publish.
The individual in this role will demonstrate dedication to serving the medical and clinical research community and will embody a recognizable and appreciated enthusiasm for communicating research to a broad global readership. He/she will also support the ability to lead various internal staff and team members through the establishment of new projects, content development, and the launch of new titles, programs, partnerships, and relationships.
The Senior Editorial Manager, Medical/Clinical will be encouraged to participate in open dialogues with peers and senior leadership to challenge the status quo in academic publishing, providing open dialogue to spearhead new ideas, business models, publication models, tools, innovations, ideas, and day-to-day operations that contribute to the overall impact and influence of our academic portfolio, and the academic publishing industry.
• Responsibilities:*
• Is responsible for the performance, continued growth, and management of 20+ top- and middle-tier medical and clinical journals (hybrid and OA); prioritize society relationships.
• Guide and Lead Editors and affiliated Society Leadership to set clear performance goals and outcomes for top titles; Develop clear goals with both aspirational and achievable expectations.
• Oversee new launch titles within this area of the business and expertly navigate essential priorities with respect to developing new Open Access journals targeted for 2024 and beyond.
• Liaise with Production, Marketing, Design, and Sales teams to ensure that all Editorial initiatives are successfully implemented and promoted.
• Analyze internal journal performance data to facilitate optimal editorial performance.
• As a foremost priority, the individual in this position will maintain a keen focus on the relevancy, reach, and visibility of expanding our foremost clinical and medical journals, ensuring each title under their authority is thoughtfully and expertly developed to expand, influence, and impact every essential opportunity across the entire portfolio and content lifespan.
• Assess competing journals and plan competitive strategies to enhance Editor and Editorial Board performance.
• Plan and host annual Editorial Board Meetings or other social Editorial events for each title; occasional business travel will be required.
• Other Editorial tasks as requested.
Required Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree required; PhD or other degrees in science-related subject a plus.
• 10-15+ years overseeing academic peer-reviewed journals, journal management, and new title development.
• Significant managerial experience, mentoring, strategic planning, and operational execution.
• Broad editorial leadership traits, effective collaboration skills, and ability to build cohesive, aligned, and high performing teams.
• Demonstrated experience in academic publishing and established track record developing and implementing digital content strategies, within clinical/medical disciplines.
• Creative, dynamic, outgoing personality with the willingness to manage multiple projects at once.
• Ability to work collaboratively with marketing, sales, and business development teams to support corporate (B2B) partner initiatives.
• Strong understanding and knowledge of Open Access business models, new deals, new and current funder/funding mandates, and other global publishing initiatives.
• Knowledge of PubMed/MEDLINE, PMC, Web of Science, Scopus, and ScholarOne.
• Experience overseeing the launch and development of OA and hybrid titles in the clinical and medical space a bonus.

· Most work performed in an office environment that is either remote or in an APS office location.
· Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at a desk with a computer screen (APS provided laptop and/or monitor).
· Incumbent may use a keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
· Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in completion of job responsibilities.
· Flexible work hours to accommodate the time differences for meetings and events as requested.
· May be required to occasionally lift up to ten pounds.
Travel
Position may require some business travel (~20-25 days per year) to attend meetings and events as directed by supervisor.
