Responsibilities include but are not limited to...
• Writing, editing and posting breaking news stories following in-house and AP style.
• Creating compelling SEO-strong headlines that entice people to click.
• Complementing stories with videos, photos and interactive charts.
• Alerting audience to breaking news stories via mobile, email and desktop alerts.
• Engaging our social media audience through platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
• Covering press conferences via livestream such as Facebook live.

The ideal candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Strong news judgment and excellent communication skills are a must as this person collaborates with newsroom editors, reporters, photographers and developers to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality digital content that Hawaii relies on. Shifts might include nights and weekends.

Familiarity with Mac OSX, WordPress, Adobe Photoshop and content management systems is a must. Experience with NewsEngin and Adobe InDesign is a big plus. The position is based in Honolulu, Hawaii. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Working together with HONOLULU’s Editorial Director and Executive Editor, the Digital Editor has a rare opportunity to play a key role in growing the digital audience for HONOLULU’s respected media brands on a variety of digital platforms (website, e-newsletters, video and social media). As part of this overall scope of work, the Digital Editor works with editors and writers for all HONOLULU brands, including HONOLULU Magazine, Frolic Hawai‘i and HONOLULU Family, to conceptualize and produce multimedia content across the HONOLULU platforms. We’re seeking an innovative editor with a digital-first mindset who has expertise in audience and traffic growth, revenue generation, and content promotion. Experience with affiliate content would be a bonus.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conceptualize and coordinate the weekly lineup of digital stories and assign them to staff writers and freelancers
• Edit stories and execute the daily rollout on HONOLULU’s website
• Collaborate with the social media team on strategy to promote the stories and assist with posting as needed
• Create and send HONOLULU’s Insider and Weekend Picks e-newsletters and Frolic Newsletters
• Prepare monthly digital traffic and other reports as needed
• Collaborate with the editorial, art, marketing, and sales teams on multimedia presentations of HONOLULU’s print content on the website and social media
• Write digital stories

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• At least 3 years of experience working in digital media
• Strong writer and editor
• Detail oriented
