Job Summary

The STEAM Coordinator is an integral part of the STEAM programming team with Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania. This position is a perfect fit for someone looking to work with youth in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and arts in education settings. The STEAM program aims to introduce youth, especially those from historically underserved backgrounds to STEAM fields, broadening their exposure to these growing fields as potential career options. This is a growing department at BGCWPA and we are looking for someone willing to learn, grow, and help implement the program. The successful candidate is an eager learner, teacher, and enjoys teamwork in a collaborative environment. In addition to working directly with youth, the STEAM Coordinator will track data such as attendance and surveys and assist the Director of STEAM with gathering information for grant applications and reports.

Responsibilities
• Plan & execute STEAM activities for youth during afterschool, summer, and evening hours.
• Work collaboratively with contracted STEAM programming providers.
• Use 3D printers, robots, and other Club technology resources as well as oversee maker space activities.
• Gather and track data pertaining to grants for proposals and reports
• Participate in BGCA national programs & training as necessary or desired.
• Assist implementing and creating engaging STEAM-focused local programs.
• Mentor and inspire youth, adults and volunteers in the creative process.
• Keep records of participants, schedules & attendance.
• Build STEAM curriculum to support the ambassador program regarding STEAM programming.

Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• A degree in Education, STEM, or the Arts preferred, but not required.
• 1-2 years experience working with youth required
• Experience in science, technology, engineering, math or arts education or professional experience preferred
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; willingness to keep workspaces and STEAM materials organized
• Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, youth, parents, local community leaders, schools and community organizations.
• Must be available to work 1-3 evenings per week.
• Must complete a health physical and TB test
• 3 letters of Reference
• Clearances Act 33, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR letter.
• Mandated Reporter Certification within 45 days of hire
• Be able to attend a minimum of 12 hours of training per year.

Job Title: Summer STEAM Afternoon Program Assistants Grades 1-8

Job Description: This position involves assisting with afternoon activities for students going into grades 1-8 for Summer STEAM. Other duties as assigned.

Summer STEAM will run from June 12 through July 27, 2023, Monday - Thursday. On July 3 and 4, there will be no Summer STEAM and on July 5 and 6, we will offer optional light programming to our Summer STEAM students. There may be additional paid opportunities for staff interested in working bus supervision, family engagement events, and at the end of the program to assist with the pack up of Summer STEAM materials. There will be some required training dates for staff during the week of June 5, which will be communicated to all hired staff once details are finalized. This position will report to Lincoln or FMS from 11:30am - 3:30pm and will be approximately 100 hours at $13.04/hour. Applicants who are available for the entirety of the program will be considered first.

Qualifications: Experience with working in a summer camp setting and assisting with activities for youth.
