The Sustainable Design Lead’s position is to help direct and shape the future of sustainable design within Synapse, a hardware product development consultancy. The sustainable design lead will work collaboratively with the VPs of engineering, Directors and Heads of our engineering departments, and the engineering teams directly to establish sustainable design strategy, train the... team on ground breaking techniques they can apply to client product engineering, and ensure that sustainable design work done is held to our thorough standards in service of our clients. The sustainable design lead works with the sales and marketing teams to sell and deliver outstanding sustainable product development services, including crafting quals and assets for use in sales pitches. This individual also creates trainings and builds product development tools, processes, and standard methodologies for the sustainable design practice. A primary focus is developing a strong team of practitioners of sustainable design, including engineers of several different fields, and training them on both the sustainable design practices as well as communication tools to use with clients on the subject. This is both an inwardly- and externally-facing role that is responsible for representing this practice to the market and key leaders within client organizations.
Given the leadership this role brings, and our collaborative environment, this role is based in Seattle and part of our hybrid work model.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the Sustainable Design practice at Synapse, extending to provide that expertise to Capgemini. Keep the team and practice at Synapse current and up-to-date on industry research. Design and deliver trainings to key practitioners of sustainable design (including engineers of different fields.) Ensure that sustainable design work is held to our quality standards
• Contribute to the Capgemini/Synapse sustainability strategy, including identifying market trends, collaborating with leadership to identify new opportunities and how to apply sustainable design to the existing sectors, and mapping future developments of the team and offer evolution
• Personally sell sustainable design work to clients, clearly communicating what sustainable design is, how we practice it, and why it is in our clients’ best interests to engage on the topic, as well as creating quals and supporting sales teams on request
• Publish thought leadership, articles / white papers on trends, advances, and research on sustainable design, renewable energy, climate technology, and other relevant topics with an eye towards building credibility in the space and readership, as well as attract new clients
• Perform work on or assist with Synapse’ engineering projects that involve a sustainable design or climate technology focus, as needed
• Represent Synapse and Capgemini Invent at professional sustainability conferences such as GreenBiz / Sustainable Brands
• Collaborate with the Capgemini Sustainability teams worldwide to spread knowledge of sustainable design and provide input, sales support, and services to teams/clients as needed
